1947 British Championship edit

I think Barden got it wrong when he said that Sir George Thomas withdrew from the 1947 British championship, allowing Crown to compete.

The "Thomas" in that table is almost certainly Sir George rather than Andrew Rowland Benedick. This source on A. R. B. Thomas says that he didn't play in the 1947 championship, and that the player who withdrew from the championship to make way for Crown was Robert Forbes Combe. Combe was a Scottish lawyer who had caused a massive upset by winning the 1946 championship. (Maybe there's enough in the Chess Scotland biography to justify an article on Combe)? Anyway I'm inclined to think Barden's memory is at fault here and that it was Combe (the defending champion) rather than Sir George Thomas who withdrew.
