Reduced to Clear (Repricing) labels in retail

edit

A number of UK-based retailers (certainly the top 5 grocery, and one major home improvement chain) use an Code128/GS1-128 to reprice items in store by the each, for example, to reduce the price of a specific item because it is damaged or nearing it's sell buy/use by/best before date. The label is usually self-adhesive and stuck over the products barcode, with additional copies being stuck on the front of the product to alert the customer to the damage/reduction

The label usually has a number below it, to allow manual keying in case it does not scan (there is a significant rate of scan failure due to dirt, thermal fade, or printer/stationery inaccuracies).

The number format is retailer specific, but often starts with starts with a 9, and usually embeds the GTIN and price in a fairly obvious way. It sometimes also embeds an do not sell after day of week or day of month which will be checked by the cash register. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.105.60.169 (talk) 12:45, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Application Identifiers

edit

A lot of content had to be removed due to a very historic plagiarism of http://www.barcodeisland.com/uccean128.phtml by 117.97.1.175 on "20:08, 15 May 2010" although the "source" site also looks suspect. Found http://www.gs1-128.info/ai-values/ to contain a very similar table but seems a much stronger source?

Quite a few changes had been made to the descriptive part of that section but separating the original from copies is just far too tricky. Any suggestions how this should be handled and thoughts if that content was useful?

  • What exactly is a "..very historic.." plagiarism?
