About Magnetic Devices

edit

The article states in section 1.3 "...because motor fuels are non-polar, no such alignment or other magnetic effect on the fuel is possible. When tested, typical magnet devices had no effect on vehicle performance or economy."

First of all, the non-polarity of fuel molecules speaks to their behaviour in an electric field, NOT a magnetic field. The relevant quantity in this case would be their magnetic dipole moment.

Secondly, we are told that typical devices have no effect. What about the atypical ones? Are there any?

I am not a 'believer' in these devices, but I found this section to be more about debunking than documenting. To start off with a specious scientific argument that these things _can't_ work, and then mutter about 'typical' devices gives the reader nothing. Less than nothing, actually. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PlantTrees (talkcontribs) 19:42, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Agenda much?

"There are also genuinely useful 'emissions-control defeat devices' that operate by allowing a vehicle's engine to operate outside government-imposed tailpipe emissions parameters."

No doubt written by someone who is now frothing at the mouth over VW's naughtiness. Greglocock (talk) 22:50, 7 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Fuel saving device. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

NPOV

edit

This article has a gross bias to dubunking. This is an encyclopedia not a consumer tabloid. Facts please, balanced ones. And Add the devices that do work (like water injection, intercooling, turbo charging etc). DO NOT remove the NPOV tag til then, as it will apply until this is done and the existing segments corrected.

Mycosys (talk) 02:16, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the tag. I fail to see how an article can be faulted for debunking. There is a need for balance, and I'm sure when we see rigorous testing of aftermarket fuel saving devices that work they'll be included. The claims by the manufacturers don't count. Whilst the technologies you nominate undoubtedly can be used to save fuel, mostly they don't (intercooling for example, and even turbos are a bit iffy on SI engines) it'd need serious expansion of the article to cover that. I suggest you write it since the bee is in your bonnet. That isn't an NPOV issue, that's a lack of content. Wiki relies on users generating content, not just carping from the sidelines.
