Images

Everyone, I removed, moved, and resized many of the images in this article because it blatantly violated MOS:SANDWICH, which states: "Multiple images can be staggered right and left. However, avoid sandwiching text between two images that face each other; or between an image and in­fo­box, nav­i­ga­tion template, or similar." It's unfortunate that there are so many images of Mr. Rogers but not enough room for them in his article. Perhaps some of the ones I deleted can go in other articles about him, like Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 04:01, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

That is unfortunate. I actually have a few more photos that I wanted to add later on. I will be adding them to the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood article instead. Finished tweaking for now. Later I might remove the Francois Clemmons photo and replace it with photos that focus on the structure of the Neighborhood show. I ordered some press photos from eBay and I am still waiting on them. FunnyMath (talk) 06:59, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

FM, thanks for your changes; they are so much better than what I tried to do. I agree that many of the images that were here could go over to the Neighborhood article. Someone should really work on improving it, hmm perhaps someone with experience in improving articles about children's TV shows? It's on my radar, but I've got other irons in my fire, I'm starting grad school in a few weeks, and it requires a lot of research that I'm not motivated to do right now. Images for Mr. Rogers have the opposite challenges for other articles like this; for example, Sesame Workshop is highly protective of its images, so it's really hard to find high-quality free images about its characters and other aspects of its programs. Here, we have the opposite problem, with an abundance of riches but not enough room to put them anywhere. I might get around to improving the Neighborhood article. I have very little experience with editing Wikipedia, so it's tough for me. For now, I started a draft for Rogers' Old Friends ... New Friends program. See Draft:Old Friends ... New Friends. I will be putting more pictures in that draft as well as the Neighborhood article. Sesame Street is an interesting case. The Friends series is a good place to start, to cut your teeth on. I wouldn't recommend a newbie editor tackling Neighborhood; there is so much information out there about it and you really need experience in mining sources and figuring out what to include and what not to include. Starting out with smaller and more minor articles is a good way to go. Creating new articles is also a good way to learn to edit well, so good job on creating the Friends one. I recommend that you go to different wikiprojects to find articles to create or stubs to expand or other articles that need general improvement. That being said, I'm here to assist, just like more experienced editors helped me out when I was a newbie. I had the best mentors here, so I like to pass it on to others. I think Mr. Rogers would approve of that. Anyway, I've looked at your draft, and it's a good start. I'm glad to see that you used King's book; it has a lot of good content that you need to use more of. If you like, we can have a Zoom tutorial, something I didn't get back in the good ole days. Good luck about finding SS images; I've tried over and over again through the years, and I've never been able to procure them from the Workshop. Thanks for the kind wishes, and you stay safe, too. Party

I see that the party bit in the infobox is commented out, with a note that he was not a pol. So when I saw the comment removed, I immediately reverted its removal. Is there any sense we should have his party affiliation in the infobox?Shajure (talk) 02:58, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Scott Cawthon's infobox has his party affiliation despite him not being a politician. Same with Mark Cuban, Tucker Carlson, Chris Wallace, Lester Holt, etc. So I don't see how "he's not a politician" is a valid reason to not include it. Guy13932 (talk) 19:36, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Fixed Cawthon and added a note on the discussion page there. The fact that something exists in a WP article does not bear on whether it should exist in another. An interested auth editor might look at the discussion on pages where it is included and find the discussion, if there is any, which might be persuasive.Shajure (talk) 21:08, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Over 43 honorary degrees?

I can't edit the article, but the detail that Mr. Rogers received "over 43 honorary degrees" seems imprecise. 44 degrees? 229 degrees? 1.3 million degrees?

In fact, according to The Fred Rogers Center, it is simply 43 honorary degrees.

Har-har, you're hilarious. See, I can use sarcasm, too. ;) Why can't you edit? You should be able to. At any rate, according to the Tribune-Review (ref198), Rogers received "more than 40" honorary degrees; the Fred Rogers Center (ref199) states that he received 43 by 2002. I'll go ahead, though, and change the language to "more than 40" as per your request and to cover both sources. Pretty easy, but make sure that you sign your talk page posts, please. Why does this belong in the lead?

"Rogers died of stomach cancer in 2003, aged 74. " I thought it was in the body, and the initial change did not mention it was in the lead. Why does this belong in the lead twice at all? It's been interesting watching this unfold through my watchlist. I would lean towards including the "three weeks" or "less than one month" before his 75th birthday. Is it editorializing? Sure, but it is a common statement across some of the other language wikis (Italian, Russian, and Scots were some of the ones I found). There is a small base of some reliable sources reporting on the timeframe with the following counts: three weeks before (1), one month before (4), and generic "before his 75th birthday" (403 total results with no reliability check). These were just simple google results and I didn't dive into the News tab or run this through a library resource. I honestly thought there might be more sources than these searches returned, so I can probably be convinced that it is more encyclopedic to remove it. Inomyabcs (talk) 00:43, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
