Perplexity edit

Since the Académie Julian list of alumni and faculty is on my watchlist, I read the page Frances Richards (Canadian artist), ref Benezit article has the artist ROWLEY, Frances Richards - Painter, as a male.....!--DDupard (talk) 10:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that, and commented on in my edit summary. I think that this is a mistake in Benezit. Frances is the female form of Francis, and I am not aware of any men with this name. Benezit is almost certainly referring to this person, as Rowley was her husband's surname, she was Canadian, the period is correct and she was know for her portraits. She signed her portrait of Sir William Buell Richards with "Frances Richards" which supports the use of this name for this article. Verbcatcher (talk) 19:19, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I have sent an email to Oxford Index alerting them to this. Verbcatcher (talk) 19:46, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
