built dates

edit

An editor posted the following at my Talk page, which I move to here:

Build dates

Regarding this edit to Fowler Methodist Episcopal Church (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views): The real situation with the build date is more complex. The original structure, a chapel, was built in 1894. The church was expanded with an addition in 1906. I had to look at a couple different sources to determine the listing of build dates, and there's a little bit of a difference in wording between the Minneapolis HPC and the Larry Millett books, but they basically confirm that part of the church was built in 1984 and the rest was built in 1906.

This may not make that much of a difference, but your edit summary of, "consistency of built date in infobox with text. Infobox date was probably from NRHP infobox generator, which interprets first date in a list as built date, sometimes incorrect" indicates that you're still asserting that I don't know how to use the NRHP database properly. That's why I keep insisting that editors refer to other resources, not just the database, when doing articles. I keep repeating this, but it seems like I'm talking to a brick wall. (Or, in this case, a hard quartzite wall.) --Elkman (Elkspeak) 16:23, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

I think that suggests the built date field in the NRHP infobox here should show two dates, with some punctuation, e.g. "1894, 1906" or "1894 & 1906" or "1894; 1906". But not 1894-1906 which would imply it was under construction for that entire date range. I will update this article with one of those. Please discuss further here, anyone. thanks, --doncram 20:27, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Name of the article and the building

edit

If the building is currently known as the "Scottish Rite Temple", should that not be the name of the article? Noting that it was formerly known as the "Fowler Methodist Episcopal Church" in the lede would make sense, but we are supposed to use current naming are we not? (Hence "Willis Tower" instead of the more commonly known "Sears Tower") — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:2:4000:8E:8923:EEF4:3D49:B87 (talk) 16:54, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
