Column of Theodosius: destruction

edit

If the book by the 17th-ccentury traveller George Sandys is to be believed this column was still erect in the first quarter of the 17th century. He illustrates it (sadly not in sufficient detail to read the scrolling image of soldiers, etc.) on page 35 of book one of "A Relation of a Journey Begun an Dom. 1610. Foure Bookes Coutaining a Description of the Turkish Empire, of Aegypt, of the Holy Land, of the Remote Parts of Italt, and Islands Adjoyning" which was published in 1615. I have been informed that the column to which I referred is a different one - Column of Arcadius. We live and learn.
