Fair use rationale for Image:Austria national team.gif edit

Image:Austria national team.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:02, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

second to alpine skiing? edit

It is hard to compare alpine skiing with fooball: the austrian bundesliga is international not very competitive, butthe austrian alpine skiing team is the most successfull in the world. This is teh main reason, why austrian bundeliga games have not as much TV-spechtators as alpine skiing worlcup competitions. But when an austrian tteam plays in champions league, this is watched by more people in TV than an average worldcup race. Also, the single events with the most TV-spectators are the World Cup and European Championship Finals in Football.

Also football receives more coverage in newspapers than alpine skiing. --Qaywsxedc (talk) 19:51, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this should be changed, if the Austrian national team is in an international competition, the ratings are even higher, e.g. at the Euro 2016 the market share of the Austrian matches where between 60% and 66%[1] and the absolute values where higher than of each other sports event. In absolute numbers the matches of Austria against Hungary[2] (here the numbers are stated separately for the first and second half but the average is well over 1.6 million) and Iceland[3] each had over 1.6 million viewers on average. all these numbers are higher than any event at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. And during the Euro 2016 there was also "public viewing" (I know this term has a different meaning in English) which is not included in the TV ratings. --MrBurns (talk) 22:11, 10 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
I removed the skiing part now, but imho football is the most popular sport in Austria. the comparison Euro 2016/ Winter Olympics 2014 is quite striking and imho one cannot use club competitions for comparison, because in skiing most fans just support everyone from Austria, but in football many fans of a club don't watch matches of other clubs, e.g. many fans of Rapid Vienna will not watch matches of Austria Vienna or Red Bull Salzburg even if they are in Champions League, although these matches count for the country coefficient. --MrBurns (talk) 22:21, 10 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Relegation from First League? edit

Can someone explain this in the article? That way we can clarify how someone who finishes third in First League gets relegated to Regionalliga(and not in playoffs).... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011%E2%80%9312_Austrian_Football_First_League#League_table http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011%E2%80%9312_Austrian_Football_First_League#Promotion.2FRelegation_Playoffs

It's now mentioned in the text: their license was withdrawn (because of financial troubles). --MrBurns (talk) 22:23, 10 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
