Canada Post first implemented the new postal code system on a trial basis at the municipal level in Ottawa beginning on April 1, 1971, "

City-codes were being used as early as the 1940s. These supplanted the "station letters" that were also in widespread use (and are still used in a few cases today). My house was "5 Toronto" for instance. Maury 21:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
