Untitled edit

Hi, I am interested in creating a new Wikipedia page for Taylor Thom, a former University of Texas softball player who now plays for Team USA and a new professional team out of the Dallas, TX area, Dallas Charge. As fastpitch softball is growing to be a very popular sport I believe that it is important that these professional athletes' information is available to those who are interested in it. I would greatly appreciate feedback on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaylinclevenger (talkcontribs) 22:41, 29 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Bias? edit

I believe that this article has a very heavy bias toward the United States and is in a desperate need of a revision.Fox334 (talk) 20:40, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Big-time...there's no reason an article on the sport should feature the roster of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team...

Quality edit

The article mentions both men's and co-ed leagues, but then goes on to describe the game as though only women play. A glaring example is in the statements of speeds at which pitchers throw. Elite level women will typically throw at speeds around the given figure, a la Jennie Finch, but elite level men have been clocked significantly faster. Both Eddie Feigner and Ty Stofflet, two legends of men's fastpitch, were known (and measured) to be capable of throwing over 100 mph actual speed, before conversion to "Major League equivalent". The article makes few technical distinctions between this variant and slowpitch, and never really makes a case for even being worthy of a separate article.

Now that I'm done complaining, I'll certainly make every effort to improve this article in the near future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.31.111.228 (talk) 08:36, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am removing Eddie Feigner's reference from this as there is no official record that confirms he was clocked for his speed in any official capacity. Korthase (talk) 20:36, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I believe the article focuses a lot on the pitching aspect of fastpitch softball, however fails to mention much or anything at all about the fastpitch swing itself. It does not mention to key components that make up the swing and the mechanics that must be attained to be able to hit a fastpitch softball. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lmmurray1 (talkcontribs) 18:09, 13 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

material to be removed edit

I agree that this article suffers from a USA focus instead of being a general interest article on the most competitive form of softball (and how it differs from slow pitch). I propose to remove the section "2008 Olympic Game Roster", since that material is covered much better in the separate Softball at the 2008 Summer Olympics article and is not intrinsically relevant to this one. 69.119.27.73 (talk) 02:45, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Copyedit edit

I have finished a copyedit for this article. This article still needs a lot of work, but hopefully it is a bit better. I usually do not alter the content, but this article had serious POV problems, which I believe I was able to largely fix. The article probably still has global issues so I left that tag up. The lead is a mess, with information that is not in the article, information in the article stated twice but not in the lead, etc. There is also a sourcing problem with a lot of unsupported claims, and a liberal use of "peacock" words. WP:PEACOCK I only made one pass through that pitching technique section since it delved into such irrelevant minutia (compared to the subject) that I doubted most of that section would remain in that article. This article probably did not deserve a C-rating when I began, but perhaps it does now? Good luck! Aaron north (T/C) 04:22, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

the fastest pitch is cited as 89 mph near the top of the article, then 95 mph near the bottom of the article. Croquethead (talk) 21:02, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mostly redundant to main article edit

This article suffers from being both overly focused on the US, and from being largely redundant to the main softball article. This needs a significant rewrite. oknazevad (talk) 03:22, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Lead edit

Why does the first sentence need to say “played by men and women”? Most sports are, and the articles for them don’t say this. Thesowismine (talk) 07:33, 8 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Thesowismine I would I like to echo this point. The lead is extremely uninformative. It explains absolutely nothing about what fastpitch actually is. TheThighren (talk) 14:57, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
