John Derry

edit

Tried to look up John Derry and his crash at Farnborough but nothing here, nor was there anything on the 'Derry Turn' aerobatic manoeuvre he created. Found this when looking up DH 110. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1952_Farnborough_Airshow_DH.110_crash Royzee 21:34, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Major event

edit

This is is a major event, or at least used to be so it would be nice to have more of the details and history in the article, like accidents that have happened, and mentions of "firsts" like unveiling or first public appearance of certain kind and types of A/C so on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.154.204.152 (talk) 12:39, 21 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Added 2012 details and clarified when next shows are happening

edit

I looked up the page to see when the next show was happening, but this was rather hidden away so I promoted it. I went on to tidy up the first section. Most people visiting this encyclopedia page probably aren't greatly interested in the rivalry between the different European airshows, but are likely to be interested in practical stuff like when they are on and what happens at them.

The character of Farnborough can be confusing, because it is a mixture of what is basically an arms fair held behind closed doors with an entertainment aimed at the general public, particularly aircraft fans and children. I've been to the last two shows, but relied on the organiser's web site for the facts on traffic quoted. The site says it is about to be re-organised, so it's possible deep links might change.

History section confused

edit

We can't tell the connection between the RAF and the Society of British Aircraft Constructors. Valetude (talk) 16:14, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

As far as I am aware there is not a connection, perhaps you can explain what confused you. MilborneOne (talk) 16:18, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
It starts by referencing the SBAC show of 1932, but then says that Farnborough has its origins in the annual RAF Airshow at Hendon from 1920. Valetude (talk) 16:33, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have removed the 1920 reference, the SBAC took the opportunity to use Hendon aerodrome to demonstrate some new aircraft, some of which happended to be on site for the military air display held the day before. MilborneOne (talk) 17:21, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Update?

edit

In 2012, it attracted 109,000 trade visitors over the first five days, and 100,000 public visitors during the weekend. Orders and commitments for 758 aircraft were announced, worth US$72 billion.

Are there any more recent figures to quote? Valetude (talk) 12:54, 14 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
