ESRB Rating edit

This is the first Nintendo "published" game to have received an M rating from the ESRB. Some people think that Conker's Bad Fur Day was the first but that is incorrect. Conker's BFD was in fact published by Rareware. The game was distributed by Nintendo in North America and by THQ in Europe.

Another similar game would be Perfect Dark a game that was published by Rareware but distributed by Nintendo.

→ The confusion stems from assuming that being on a Nintendo Platform is equivalent to being Published by Nintendo. Conker's Bad Fur Day was indeed the first M rated game on a Nintendo Platform, but that's not the same thing. GeneralRidley (talk) 04:41, 28 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

That is completely false there were many other M-Rated games on the SNES, a Nintendo platform. In fact the first video game to get an M rating was Doom on the SNES and Mortal Kombat II was another M rated game.

As far as I know Nintendo has only published 2 M-rated games, Geist (GCN) and Eternal Darkness(GCN) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.34.212.151 (talk) 21:03, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

→ I admit my mistake. However, regardless of what game was in fact Nintendo's first M rated on their platform. The fact of the matter is that the first "published" and the first "on a platform" are two completely separate claims. Eternal Darkness is indeed the first "published" M rated game by Nintendo. But people mistake the fact that it wasn't the first "on a platform" to dismiss that claim. GeneralRidley (talk) 15:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

"Magick" vs. "Magic" edit

While the technically correct spelling of the word is "magic", the alternate spelling "magick" is also an acceptable variation. It's no longer used in the common English language, and in fact, most spell checking software doesn't recognize it. However, it's still a valid, yet much older spelling of the word. It's one of those "Ye Olde English" kinds of words.

The game itself uses this spelling. Whenever the word "magick" appears in the game, either in subtitles of spoken dialog, or in the text of menu screens, it uses the spelling with the letter "K". Therefore it's appropriate to use the spelling that the game itself uses when addressing it in the article. It's treated like a proper noun. If the game calls the mechanic "Magick", then so should the article.

This isn't necessarily unheard of in fiction either. It's not very common, but many fictional universes also use the "magick" spelling. The general reasoning behind this is the normal spelling "magic" tends to invoke ideas of fantastical wonder. An almost fairy-tale-esque context akin to Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. However, those that use the spelling "magick" wish to avoid this almost innocent meaning, and invoke a slightly different tone in their atmosphere. Using the older spelling invokes ideas of antiquity and mystery. Like this isn't a childhood fairy tale kind of magic, this is the older and more serious magick. Something that any universe that wants its audience to take it more seriously, especially in a horror genre, wants to use.

Eternal DarknessEternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem – full title; no reason to shorten FMSky (talk) 01:10, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

References cited in the article refer to "Eternal Darkness"; the shortened name would appear to be the WP:COMMONNAME. 162 etc. (talk) 01:58, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
This is a contested technical request (permalink). 2pou (talk) 15:46, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose as the contester states, the article is already at the common name. We do not need the complete name per WP:SUBTITLE. -2pou (talk) 15:49, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Current title meets all criteria of article title policy. Several problems with the proposed title, but mainly, just no reason to lengthen it. Andrewa (talk) 03:34, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
