Records and 1927

I have no problem with wiki readers cleaning up the page, but no way can the Mississippi-Mississippi State series be counted just since 1927. No other rivalries in college football do that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tjmpb (talk • contribs) 05:04, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Then a page should be created for Ole Miss/MSU Football history from beginning to end. As it stands now, this article is about the Egg Bowl, which wasn't an official thing, trophy included, until 1927. Therefore, this article specifically about the Egg Bowl should include only official Egg Bowl timed information. It even says in the lead, While the 2 teams have played each other since 1901, with 2003 being the year in which the 2 teams had played each other 100 times and now having played each other a total of 104 times, the first game officially known as the "The Battle of the Golden Egg" was in 1927. This handles anything before the official inauguration of the Egg Bowl. Further, even the offical eggbowl.com website has the series records starting at 1927 as does The ClarionLedger. - ✰ALLSTAR✰ ^echo 05:09, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

 Consensus?  Allstarecho took it upon him/herself to change in on February 2, 2008.  He/she never had any consensus.  There is no consensus to only count the games after 1927. I think this rivalry is notable enough such that ALL games should be presented on wikipedia. Now, apparently, many people in Mississippi do not consider games before 1927 as part of the "Egg Bowl." That being that case, I offer two options:

1.) This article cover ALL games of the series, with the explanation that many do not count the games prior to 1927 as part of the "Egg Bowl" and giving the record since 1927, but explaining that, for completeness, all games in the series are mentioned. This would be my choice. 2.) The article is moved to Ole Miss-Mississippi State Rivalry (which currently re-directs to this article) or something similar, and the "Egg Bowl" becomes a subheading under that article.

I think it's a good idea to present all games of the series, and I think that making a second article (as suggested above) is not a good option when one article would do. CH52584 (talk) 03:14, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

All games are listed as "series record" & right underneath is listed the "trophy series record" This matches format of other rivalries on Wikipedia. Ex. Michigan & Michigan State. Possible Bias

Looking at this article, there is a litany of evidence that the writer did not seek to create a balanced article. First, it defines the Egg Bowl as only games after 1927, and then strengthens this idea by citing the Clarion-Ledger's website alone, then calling that many. This fact is contrary to the idea that the game has been played since 1901, there seems to be an attempt at clarifying this, but it still seems to be playing on both sides of the issue. Second, in the notable games section, there is extraneous information which tends to favor UM; an example of this is "1997: A melee broke out between the teams before the game[4]. The game was won 15-14 by the Ole Miss Rebels on a game-winning 4th quarter drive. Tommy Tuberville, in his third season as the Rebels' head coach, opted to attempt a two-point conversion in order to avoid overtime. The conversion was successful: Stewart Patridge connected with Corey Peterson for the score, giving Ole Miss its first bowl berth in several years." Another example is the 2008 meeting, where the article makes mention of statistics, and including the firing of Sylvester Croom is speculative at best. While there is surely some importance to be made of the melee, the article makes no precedent of summarizing every close game, so the necessity of this is questionable at best. Third, the pictures that accompany the game results focus on the 2008 matchup, with the frivolous addition of UM's video board, which has no bearing on the Egg Bowl whatsoever. Also in this article is the unnecessary explanation of MSU's athletic probation, which is outside the scope of this article. Abracadaver922 (talk) 03:38, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Series history

Vaught's record was listed as 21–2–3. He was the coach 1947–1970 and 1973. Since 1970 minus 1947 is 23, there were 25 games. In the Game results list he had 2 losses (1964, 1970) and 4 ties (1953, 1957, 1963, 1968). His record was 19–2–4. Simple counting each game confirms that. Jay Jor (talk) 01:22, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
