Duchy of Brzeg → Duchy of Brieg — According to WP:NCGN the widely accepted historical English name should be used, and the name should reflect cultural or political dominance. The duchy was never part of Poland (first independent, for most of the time part of Bohemia and Prussia and thus also part of the HRE), the local society was Germanized during the Ostsiedlung in the 13th and 14th century and predominantly German. And Google Books, restricted to English, gives these results:

• "Duchy of Brzeg" 22 hits [1]
• "Duke of Brzeg" 19 hits [2]

Total: 41

• "Duchy of Brieg" 43 hits [3]
• "Duke of Brieg" 270 hits [4]

Against, as Duchy of Brieg with 639 000 ghits is less used than Duchy of Brzeg with 1 440 000 ghits.--Yopie (talk) 11:34, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

1. WP:NCGN doesn't ask for a random Google search but for Google Scholar and Google Books, i.e. scholarly sources.

2. according to WP:NCGN the name has to reflect the cultural or political dominance, and Brzeg doesn't. Karasek (talk) 15:36, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

• Oppose - as stated at other pages involved in these unprecedented mass move requests all the sources for "Brieg" are from the 19th century. The hits for "Brzeg" are from modern sources. Also, the Duchy was ruled by members of the Polish Piast dynasty. Some portions of the duchy were Germanized during the 14th and 15th centuries but others did not - certainly you cannot say it was "predominantly German", it was mixed. Modern English name that is used in the sources is "Brzeg".Volunteer Marek (talk) 09:02, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
