Drosera meristocaulis is found on the Brazil/Venezuelan border, and the centre of pygmy Drosera diversity is in Western Australia. Reaching for my trusty globe, they appear to be almost exactly on the other side of the globe to each other, ie antipodal. So rather than stating 'west' when you could just as validly state 'east' in this case, why not just say 'antipodal' and that they are 17,000 km (11,000 mi) apart? I didn't want to stray too far from what the reference gives. Any other inference or synthesis on my part is original research. Besides, the idea is that South America drifted westward from Gondwana, making the point that it's 17000 km west of closely related species; consider the direction of the drifting continents.
