Talk:Direct Energy

In the very first paragraph: This is YOMAMA! However, the last paragraph reads: "The current president of the company is Deryk King." Anyone able to settle this discrepancy? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kilraven (talkcontribs)

When was the company founded? edit

When was Direct Energy founded? This page says 1985[1]. This page says 1986[2].

My money's on 1985, but we need some solid references on this. Until then, I put both dates in the article. -Frazzydee| 02:10, 14 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Controversies edit

So. This is for the unknown IP who has been making changes and anyone else who can help me with a slight issue. About 3 weeks ago an unknown IP address put in a very biased controversies section that was about the size of the entire page. I went in and fixed the tone of the piece, but I wasn't as edit happy as I wanted to be because the section does bring a balance to the piece and I did not want to begin an edit war. Unfortunately there is still a part that does not have enough resources to back it up. It's this section:

"Water Heater Rental Contracts March 2012 - Direct Energy attempted to impose harsh new contract terms on 500,000 rental water heater customers with new exit fees and high buyout charges for those who wanted to buy or rent water heaters from other suppliers. It withdrew the plan after receiving numerous complaints from consumers. Direct Energy continues to make it difficult for its customers to switch to other suppliers by charging a $75 fee to pick up water heaters from people’s homes and restricting the number of return centres.[21]

The Competition Bureau took action against Direct Energy for engaging in action that "intentionally suppress competition and restrict consumer choice" with its water heater rental contracts. Specifically, The Competition Bureau took issue with Direct Energy's process of returning water heaters that involved a requirement to call to obtain authorization to return a rented water heater, aggressive retention tactics during these calls, restrictions on when and where water heaters can be returned, and unwarranted fees and charges.[1]"''

While Direct Energy did have legal issues with this matter, they still supply water heaters and there is no evidence that the matter has not been resolved. I've looked there is no evidence on the internet one way or the other. I don't believe its kosher to lead people to believe the worst due to prejudice and lack of information. I want to edit it slightly to reflect this, but last time I did the same masked IP address changed the information. What is my next step? If anyone could help me with this, that would be appreciated. "Help:template" (code) {{edit request}} I am paid by Direct Energy to make edit requests on their behalf, and have disclosed this COI on my user page. Current customer counts are overstated and Direct Energy is not currently the largest North American energy retailer. Please change "making it the largest energy retailer in North America" to "making it one of the largest energy retailers in North America". Joshcrank (talk) 16:33, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

  Partially implemented
  1.  Y The figure of 6 million was adjusted to 4 million.
  2.  N The claim statement "largest" was omitted. Even though the proposal was an improvement over the prior language, the claim does not delineate how and in what way it is one of the largest. This should clarify whether it means in subscribers, in energy delivery, in revenue, etc.
