Talk:Digital video fingerprinting

Untitled edit

I fixed the links, added 1 new source, and deciphered what the UGC sites stand for. Catwilmore (talk) 16:05, 8 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

I removed the claim that fingerprinting is better than watermarking for identifying video. Watermarking is not "worse" than fingerprinting, in fact it offers source traceability which fingerprinting does not. --Jimbo talk) 00:48, 24 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Limitations Of Hash Codes used to say that they could not identify small segments of video. That is only true of a hash code that is computed from an entire file. Imagine the case where a set of hash codes are computed for small portions of a file. This hash code could then identify small segments of the file, if their boundaries correspond to the boundaries of the hash. I admit this is a bit tortured, but still true. Fingerprints offer a value over hash codes but it should be worded differently. Jimbo (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:38, 8 September 2010 (UTC).Reply

I would suggest to include this two companies to the list of vendors: http://www.gracenote.com/products/videoid/ (voice based video identification), and http://duplicatevideosearch.com/video-fingerprinting-sdk/ (video fingerprinting) --Alex (talk) 20:31, 06 Aug 2012 (UTC)

External links getting out of control? edit

Hi. I went about removing several dead links in the "External links" section. Then I realized that the only thing left was a seemingly arbitrary list of commercial products. I have removed these because it's not clear what criteria should be used for inclusion in this list and because Wikipedia is not a collection of links. I suggest that notable products should be integrated into the article body itself, with wiki links to their own article(s). --Ds13 (talk) 03:57, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

How does it work? edit

There is not the slightest suggestion of a technological explanation or algorithm in this article. Usually technical articles give you a sense of the underlying technologies that are available. Burressd (talk) 14:48, 23 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

merge into new article "digital media fingerprinting" edit

Audio, and image fingerprinting are also common and perhaps this article should be moved to digital media fingerprinting to reflect that.

So merge Acoustic fingerprint and Digital video fingerprinting into a new Digital media fingerprinting and add some content about image fingerprinting. A merge proposal like this can be compelling if there's a lot of overlap in the articles. In this case, the material referencing Digital watermarking is potential overlap as is an introductory discussion that would need to be written. If someone is inclined to take on this project, I'd suggest you start by creating Digital media fingerprinting with that introductory discussion and move the Digital watermarking content there then link to Acoustic fingerprint and Digital video fingerprinting. ~Kvng (talk) 13:03, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
