External linkage edit

  • I removed the Hideout link. I did this because it's not particularly germane to the band; it borders on linkspam, and properly belongs on a page dedicated to the Hideout itself, which probably should exist. I see it as akin to linking to a band's record label on the band page - that really just belongs on the label's page itself.
  • I removed the empty {{reflist}} template, which is as of yet useless.
  • I returned the Allmusic link to the "references" section, because it is the only actual reference used in the article. It is the source of the article's information. I've no complaints if someone wants to convert it into footnotes, but it is not merely an "external link" - it's a third-party information source. Chubbles (talk) 14:02, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
In other words reverted without discussion. If its a reference it should be inline and you'll need the reflist to do that. Otherwise its an external link. ProfDEH (talk) 20:28, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I believe you are confusing references with footnotes. I am using Allmusic as a source, which is synonymous with reference. The Hideout page is not a source of information, nor a reference; it is merely an external link, even if you format it as a footnote. Chubbles (talk) 20:32, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, I spent nearly an hour reading up on references. You're basically right - except that footnotes are for explanatory text, not sources. I thought references had to be inline or they would be external refs, which is not the case. ProfDEH (talk) 07:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Back to references edit

I see that for three years, this stub has languished. I re-added a {{Reflist}} Reference section. I just don't agree with Chubbles --doesn't matter if no in-line sources are added; hopefully, someone who cares will come along and add sources. Additionally, the article appears to be stagnant after seven years since their "last album" in 2005. Not one band member or session player listed has an article to link to-- even after all this time. David "Honeyboy" Williams seems the only notable musician with whom the band has played. There's a lot needed to be done, or else, (dare I say it) perhaps this is a deletable article... I don't know. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 01:13, 2 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

You're wrong about two things. I'm not in the band and actually don't much care for them; I just write a lot of articles. And about that caring - who wrote the article again? But an empty reflist template doesn't do anything and can be added when it is actually needed. I think the article's quite fine as is; I never agreed with the idea that an article gets better when every punctuation mark is followed with a footnote, and the article establishes notability per WP:MUSIC, which is as much as I intend to do with it. Articles don't need to be edited often to be useful. If you think things need to be done, be bold. Chubbles (talk) 11:50, 2 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
