Birthplace?

edit

Was DeShields born in College Park, as Wikipedia says, or was he born in Norcross, as Baseball-reference.com says? http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=deshie002del --Lbr123 (talk) 00:07, 13 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

According to ESPN he was born is Gaston, GA ReaganBrown (talk) 19:08, 4 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • The Texas Rangers Baseball Club web site says Gaston (retrieved 2015-08-29 local time). I've put in an inquiry with the club's media relations department for clarification. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:51, 30 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • My gut says it is a town or community which existed in 1992 but which no longer exists or whose status has been "downgraded" to the point that it doesn't come up on a web search. See Buckingham, Richardson, Texas for an example of a city that was absorbed into a larger city since 1992. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 03:04, 30 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Update 2015-09-16 I called the front office of The Texas Rangers Baseball Club. They checked. He wasn't born in either Gaston, Georgia or College Park, Georgia. They told me where it was but since I haven't seen that city listed in any reliable source I'm not going to mention it here (WP:BLP/privacy concerns come into play). Once I see it in a reliable source I will link it here. Please pay attention to the "usual sources" like baseballreference.com, ESPN.com, and official MLB Internet sites for changes made on or after today. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:52, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jr.? Or not?

edit

Should DeShields be listed as a Jr.? He's technically not a junior, as his middle name is different from his father's. He also stated in an interview last year that he doesn't want to be called Jr.. The issue is that most people don't know this, so should we just leave it as it is? Or change it to just 'Delino DeShields'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ReaganBrown (talkcontribs) 00:03, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

You can't be a Junior if your name is not exactly the same as your dad. You can only be a II but not Junior. II is for people who only have the same first name. He doesn't qualify to be a Junior — Preceding unsigned comment added by 240F:31:34B4:1:D0B2:C8C5:BAEC:2B43 (talk) 13:19, 15 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
