Fort Thomas edit

I saw the edit to remove "Fort Thomas" from the article, with comments in the edit summary "Removed Fort Thomas as a reference since it was not in existence. The area was known as the Highlands".

I added it back, because that's what the cited source says, which means to me that either it was called Fort Thomas more informally before the late 1800s - or they meant to say later the site of Fort Thomas.

Either way, adding or changing information requires a citation / source. Is there a source that says "Highlands" instead of Fort Thomas?–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:32, 28 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I copy-edited the use of Fort Thomas to make it clear: modern-day Fort Thomas. "Highlands" is not used in any period accounts of the few fortifications/rifle pits that were located near that area. Spacini (talk) 16:32, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Spacini. I am so glad that you are here to provide proper context for the information and ensure that it is correct. My only point is that if content is changed beyond cited sources in the body of the article or new to the summarized info in the intro, a source is needed for that. Do you have a source for the addition of "abatis"? Otherwise the info is original research. I will look around. I am guessing that you have personal knowledge and it's not related to recent reading of information.–CaroleHenson (talk) 16:59, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's not personal research. The abatis is shown on all of the maps prepared by Maj Simpson. I think the OR also mentions in a telegram from Wallace to Wright that all of the trees in front of his lines have been cleared for an unobstructed field of fire.
