Early hits

The table of hits lists only later hits, though I recall "Heart of Glass", "Denis", "Call Me", "Rapture", "In the Flesh" were all significant hits in Australia prior to of during 1981. I'm sure the band had other hits here too. Wasn't "In the Flesh" a hit in Australia before charting anywhere in the world? Any experts keen to add this sort of thing to the article? Asa01 09:13, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

OK My mistake. Those were Blondie hits and are described there. Asa01 19:15, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Timeline

"Launching just on the cusp of MTV," Wrong. Blondie were around several years before MTV. "Debbie Harry and Blondie put out some of the first rock music videos" Also wrong. Music videos have been around since the '60s (though were mostly simple live studio performances, at that point). (And i'm not even counting clips from movies--by which measure, the Beatles take that credit.)

Stilletoes?

Is Stilletoes corectly spelled? Not knowing anything about the band, I'd guess it should be "Stilettoes". 85.226.122.205 00:01, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Stilettos. IolakanaT 17:50, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Urban myth?

I don't know how it could be applied to the article, but I can't be the only person who has heard the rumor that Debbie Harry is the illegitimate daughter of Marilyn Munroe. Obviously this exists as an urban legend but is there precident to include this under trivia? The article for Jamie Lee Curtis handles the rumor connected to her in a specific way which isn't possible here, and i'm stuck for any other comparisons. Any ideas? The globetrotter 22:36, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

It's more of a personal legend.[1] --Dhartung | Talk 00:06, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Wow, that's one heck of a leap; it was reported to me as 'fact' (obviously dismissed out of hand) but what a fantastic example of an offhand remark spiralling. Brilliant stuff, I wonder if the "When I was a little girl, I imagined I was Marilyn's daughter because I knew my parents had adopted me." is worth including under a 'quotes' heading; it does seem a little lacking that someone as wonderfully outspoken as Harry hasn't got a quotes section yet... The globetrotter 08:49, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Articles shouldn't have sections of quotations. That's what Wikiquote is for. ShadowHalo 08:45, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Dreadful

Another poor article, like the Blondie article. Who is writing these and think it is appropriate to make up the majority of the article with a list of "points" consisting of one of two sentences? Help this article someone please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paul75 (talkcontribs)

I think it's more a matter of people randomly adding one factoid at a time, alas. I'll give it a copyedit later, maybe stick it on cleanup after that. There are boatloads of music articles like this, unfortunately. --Dhartung | Talk 01:51, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
I've been trying to clear it up lately. A lot of the information I haven't been able to find a reliable source on and I may end up clearing it out. Today, I simply put all of the Blondie and Solo points together so it wasn't one big, chaotic looking timeline. If anyone can put down some of the things they know are downright untrue, I will be happy to try looking for a source and deleting it if I cannot find one, so I'm not making the mistake of deleting things just because I may be overlooking something that can be verified by someone else. Thanks. LoveLaced 20:34, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Second single from Necessary Evil (album)?

here's the link the video for "If I Had You"[2]. the link came from Debbie's official MySpace. i was wondering if anyone had an info over whether or not this will be the second single or not?LoveLaced (talk) 21:39, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Update! According to her official blog, her label is planning on releasing it as the second single.[3] LoveLaced (talk) 21:47, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Awards

Debbie has never won a grammy award but has been nominated for a golden globe award. As artists go, this is extremely unfair, I agree, but such statements should not be uploaded onto wiki. 172.159.65.113 19:52, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

She has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Call Me in 1980. Never for an Oscar though. Blondie was nomniated for 2 Grammies- Video Of The Year for Eat To The Beat video and Call Me for Rock Vocal by Duo or Group. Debbiefreak989 16:50, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
For some very odd reason there is a user who insists on adding Grammy wins both here and into the Blondie (band) article. I keep my eyes on it and remove whenever I see it - hopefully others are too. - eo 16:58, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

According to www.grammy.com, she has never won a Grammy, why is it still there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.110.19.248 (talk) 07:55, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Address

Should her home address appear in the article? It's listed there now. I know if I were her I wouldn't want my home address and phone number floating around. On the other hand, it is probably listed in the phone book anyway. I only mention this because I've never seen anybody else's address on Wikipedia.

Thoughts? Skrame (talk) 20:17, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

this is just me putting my two cents in about the name "blondie" and its relation to debbie harry. members of "new york scene" seventies bands often named THEMSELVES after their groups. (the ramones were all named "ramone," billy murcia of the new york dolls went by the name of "billy doll," etc.) and debbie harry was at times referred to as "debbie blondie." if you have some of the older copies of the "new york rocker," you'll see that she was referred to by this name. the editors and writers of the "rocker" were quite close to the artists they covered, so harry probably acquiesed to this usage..................... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.233.206.70 (talk) 23:34, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Ted Bundy

Debbie Harry has claimed in a 1989 interview that she escaped being murdered in the early 1970s, and she believes that her would-be murderer was none other than Ted Bundy. Snopes has a page on it [4] and although it notes that she is mistaken and her would-be murdered was probably a copy-cat, not the actual Bundy, I still believe that this should be included in the article, even if it is just mentioning that she was abducted and escaped being murdered before her rise to fame. I wanted to talk this over first, because I believe that if I just stuck in, it would be mistaken for vandalism. Karrmann (talk) 00:37, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Go ahead and add it in with a source, just be careful with your wording. I personally don't believe it's important enough to go into the article, but I guess it is somewhat notable. Just be sure that it doesn't sound like a former. Like you worded it in here, somewhat, but more like this:
"In a 1989 interview, Harry claimed that she escaped being murdered in the early 1970s, before Blondie rose to fame. Harry claimed she believed the murderer to be Ted Bundy, but a source states that she may have been mistaken(, etc, etc if you wanna elaborate)."LoveLaced (talk) 00:22, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Double Switch

Though not extremely significant, Debbie Harry also was in the video game Double Switch

Well, it's not at all significant. --Pedro Felipe (talk) 16:10, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Life outside of music

I understand Debbie Harry to have an MSc and either does or did work in molecular biology or the like. Does anyone have any reliable information on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.183.103.159 (talk) 00:51, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

First name

Debbie or Deborah? Her birth name is Deborah and that is the name she currently uses; the impression I get is that she made a conscious decision to stop using Debbie after leaving Blondie, in order to project a bit more gravitas. Google returns more hits for Deborah Harry than Debbie Harry. I have a feeling that this must surely have been debated before, but the issue seems not to be present on this talk page - although it does seem odd that the first entry is from as recent as 2007. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 22:22, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Origin

Isn't her origin New Jersey? She was in Miami for three months. --12.3.61.131 (talk) 16:39, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey guys, why is this missing? 91.132.224.196 (talk) 20:01, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Yep, it's strange to found no substantial information about her life. She was alcoholic and had real problems with drugs. That's not gossip. You can't realise who she was without that information. LGBT?Is she bi? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.80.223.182 (talk) 00:18, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

RE: Is she bi? ... Debbie appeared on an english TV programme called 'The Dame Edna Treatment' in 2007, and when asked by the host if she has ever "Played nurses and nurses" as opposed to doctors and nurses, Debbie replied that she had indeed, and she liked it very much.

Forget 'LGBT'. Why didn't Deb have kids? I would like to know because she is in the top 10 of women singers. More like in the top 3. Was she unable to have kids of her own or was it the economy at the time. Just curious! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.172.170.25 (talk) 22:18, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Without thinking to check the Talk page first (more reckless than bold) I just replaced the image File:Debbie Harry by David Shankbone.jpg with File:Debbie Harry 2008.JPG. Neither picture is ideal as each is taken without the subject being prepared, but I felt the original was frankly miserable, and the replacement at least shows a happy person (and does not seem creepy to me). -84user (talk) 03:05, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Debbie HarryDeborah Harry – I propose Debbie Harry be renamed to Deborah Harry (or a good explanation for the differences given in the body text) for this reason: Deborah is used in the body and no explanation of the Debbie name outside of her being quoted in 1981 that her name is not Debbie but Deborah, and the uncited text: "1989. At this point Harry reverted from "Debbie" to "Deborah" for her professional name." In addition, the article should use the name as spelled in the credits for each song, with sources preferably. Most of the names are "Debbie" but the linked articles often have "Deborah". 84user (talk) 12:47, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

She is billed as "Debbie" in the movies Hairspray, Rock 'n Rule, Satisfaction and as "Debbie" in the tv show Tales From The Darkside. She also uses "Debbie" on her singles "Rush Rush", "Feel The Spin", "Liar Liar", "Backfired", "French Kissin", "In Love With Love", "The Jam Was Moving", "Free To Fall" and many more. Debbie Harry - Sailor photograph

File:Debbie Harry - Sailor.jpg has recently been added to the article. The Commons page description claims the author is "Blondie" and that it is freely licensed. I have asked both the uploader and a blondie.net poster of the image for more details (see [5]), but does anyone have details on where this comes from? The name of the photographer and evidence that the image was released with a free license will be necessary for it to be kept on Commons. -84user (talk) 23:48, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

According to this website, it's a Lynn Goldsmith photo. I'll remove it for now. Not sure how to go about flagging it on Commons. --Fullobeans (talk) 22:33, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for finding that page, it was not in this list found by TinEye, and GoogleImages only shows the wikimedia ones. I have nominated it for deletion on Commons on the basis of that page. -84user (talk) 16:52, 28 July 2011 (UTC) Update the blondie.net poster has responded saying he did not know who took the photograph. -84user (talk) 20:14, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

This article is a disaster

There are many factual errors in this article. And this is hardly surprising because none of the major sources are cited, such as Making Tracks. Just to list a few: (1) She came to NYC in 1965, not the late 60s; (2) No source I know of claims that she was ever a "dancer in Union City"; (3) Her first band was with Charlie Nothing (sometimes called the Triangels) in 1966; (4) She joined the Wind in The Willows in 1967; (5)She formed the Stilletos in 1972, not 1974; (6); They were called Angel and the Snake for two gigs before changing their name to Blondie in 1974; (6) Tish and Snooky were not originally part of the band but came aboard later and lasted about six months; (7) She was not a regular at Studio 54; she went there maybe ten times and was much more frequently at the Mudd Club; (8) The "Blondie Is a Group" advertisement was prior to 1979; (9) Plastic Letters was not a "marginal success" outside the US; it was a platinum album in the UK and Europe. Generally, the article needs to be cleaned up and citations added. But really this points to a major failing of Wikipedia; major artists have professionals hired to create and edit wikipedia pages while the have-nots just make due with questionable results. The end result of not having uniform standards is gross inequality. Yet perversely these articles are the first thing that appear when an internet search is conducted. If I find the time I'll edit this page, but that's wishful thinking.Alexhaniha (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 09:05, 23 November 2011 (UTC).

Citation for Centenary College?

I live here in Hackettstown and I took a picture of the plaque that has her name on it. Here it is: http://imgur.com/a/30eC5 Is that good enough? It's common knowledge here that she's a graduate. I remember Debbie Harry NUDE

it was in 1985 or 86, I was working in an Am/Pm Gas/Grocery mart and we got in a stack of "nudie" mags. One was akin to the OUI magazine (VERY graphic nudity). It featured Debrah Harry from Blondie doing a FANTASTIC layout, very graphic..but WOW, it blew my mind. I just can't seem to find any other reference to this spread. Does anyone have any information on this? It may have been in High Society — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.177.13.68 (talk) 21:04, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

solo career details

I have restored the details about DH's solo career to the article after it was removed a couple of months ago. Please bear in mind that this is the Debbie Harry article, and yet there was more information about Blondie's music than her own solo career on it. Although the reason given for deleting this information was that there is already a Debbie Harry discography article that covers much of her solo career, discography articles are meant to be just a discography table with a summary intro. Details about her musical work with other artists was also removed which I have mostly restored. If some editors feel that there is an over-abundance of detail, then please discuss trimming it on the talk page rather than simply deleting it entirely. MassassiUK (talk) 19:39, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Deborah Harry, not Debbie Harry

Why is this article titled "Debbie Harry"? For over thirty years, Deborah Harry has made it clear, time after time after time, that her name is "DEBORAH HARRY" - not "DEBBIE HARRY". This article should be renamed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.83.184.98 (talk) 15:26, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Certainly during the heyday of Blondie, this preference for 'Deborah' would be mentioned in the music press, but the covers of Rockbird etc suggest it wasn't so important. Rothorpe (talk) 13:32, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Birth name

I think Caden also needs better confirmation like maybe a quote from harry herself. What do you all say? --181.25.15.48 (talk) 03:20, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

No need to attack Caden in the header. I have trimmed the header down to the essential bit. By the way, people should be allowed to change their minds after they receive new information.
So the birth name was published in 2012, by a pair of respected music journalists. We can settle the matter: her name at birth was Angela Tremble. Here's the reference:
  • Porter, Dick; Needs, Kris (June 26, 2012). Blondie: Parallel Lives. Music Sales Group. p. 8. ISBN 9780857127808.
Hope that helps. Binksternet (talk) 06:06, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

I'm afraid Caden is going to reject that source, because s/he did so before (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Debbie_Harry&diff=667370304&oldid=667306419 ).--108.27.66.14 (talk) 08:11, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

I think Caden will see the sense of citing a book by two professional music journalists. He's not more of an expert than they are. Binksternet (talk) 09:14, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Hello IP hopper who has been using many different IP addresses over the last few years. Let me clear up your big lie about me. I never added imdb. I would never use crap like that as a source. It was added by you a few years back under one of your many IP addresses. Furthermore if you want to continue to attack me, I suggest that you sign up with a proper username instead of hiding under multiple IP addresses. Caden cool 17:48, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Another "IP hopper" faked the source and tried to hide her birth name vainly ([6]). I have no idea why s/he (they?) is (are?) so desperate. --121.145.150.114 (talk) 05:48, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Rapper and Model

It says right in the intro- She is considered the first rapper to chart at number one in the U.S. for her vocals on "Rapture".[3] So that should settle that. As for a model, there's an entire section on her work with Warhol and later also mention of her collaboration with H. R. Giger. Besides that she's appeared on and in innumerable magazines over the decades, more often than many pro models. So yeah, she does that too. How many cites does it take to confirm the obvious and give this multi-talented legend her due!? --70.171.42.138 (talk) 04:10, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

A rapper is an artist whose primary musical genre is rap (Ice T, 50 Cent, etc). Debbie Harry is a rock/pop vocalist who happens to have rapped on a couple of songs, but it is not her primary genre. Madonna has rapped on records. So has Kylie Minogue. It doesn't make them rappers. Furthermore, the intro to a biographical article should only list what the subject is MAINLY known for. Not for every single little sideline they've ever done, so putting "model" is probably pushing it too. 146.90.60.117 (talk) 19:14, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
The linked book does not actually call Harry a rapper anyway, so I've changed the intro to reflect that. -Dewelar (talk) 16:19, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
