The family name is [[Gallo-Roman]], mentioned in 616 as ''Luciacus'', ''Lucy, Luci, Lucé'' derived from the Latin cognomen [[Lucius]], meaning "born with the daylight" or Gaulish Lucus, Lucius, Lucco from ''Loco- / Luco-'' possibly "wolf"<ref>Xavier Delamarre, ''Dictionnaire de la langue gauloise'', éditions Errance, Paris, 2003, p. 209</ref> + suffix ''-(i)acum'' "place, property" of Gaulish origin.

although the name patently derives from the place name for an area held by the early members and has nothing to do with Latin cognomina or Gaulish surnames, apart from its possible importance to the place name itself. Cite references for that and phrase the discussion accordingly. — LlywelynII 05:15, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
