Veneration in Georgian Orthodox Church or Eastern Orthodox Church?

As I have previously stated, it is redundant to include the GOC with the EOC because the GOC is part of the EOC. @Alexandermcnabb takes issue with "the erasure of all mention of Georgia here." Well, the infobox already mentions his patronage for Georgia. More importantly, the article states in the 'Veneration' section the following: "[he is one of] the most venerated saints and patrons of the Georgian Church."

Now the article's top paragraph can be edited to mention his primary veneration in the GOC.

Not to mention that most, if not, all articles of Eastern Orthodox saints primarily venerated in 1 autocephalous Church (e.g. St. Sava, St. Matrona, and most evidently St. Gabriel of Georgia, a Georgian saint) all list the Eastern Orthodox Church as the Church he is venerated in, not the Serbian Orthodox Church, or Russian Orthodox Church, or the Georgian Orthodox Church. As a Georgian saint, his primary church would presumably be the Georgian church. Wikipedia doesn't work on precedent, but policy based on consensus - WP:WHATABOUT to the Serbian or Russian examples - both much larger nations. David is important to Georgians - why not maintain his position in their national church? And why remove the mention of Georgia in the context of the Kingdom of Iberia - it rather appears an attempt to 'de-Georgify' David to me. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:50, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

The Georgians should have zero issue with the absence of 'GOC' from the infobox considering they are Eastern Orthodox, check the St. Gabriel of Georgia article. And Wikipedia can and does often work on precedent - WP:SSEFAR, especially on relatively minor issues like the one we are discussing now (Though a lot of Wikipedia's styles are codified in policy, to a large extent minor details are not. In cases such as these, an "other stuff exists"–type of argument or rationale may provide the necessary precedent for style and phraseology.")

I also have no issue with the country of Georgia. I just want to make it consistent between saint articles.

Bis-Serjetà is correct here. Just as we shouldn't independently list the Maronite Church when the Catholic Church is already listed, we shouldn't list the GOC independently from the Eastern Orthodox Church. Things are a tad different for groups like the Anglican Communion and Oriental Orthodox Churches, where veneration of particular saints might be restricted to only certain national churches. ~ Pbritti (talk) 11:14, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
