Angle Lock

Shouldn't on batistas page say that hew uses the Angle lock? I think so because he applied it to Jericho and Big Show. Gcm90 (talk)

Just because he uses it once does not mean that its should go in to the moves section. and please new sections go at the bottom.--Dcheagle (talk) 04:16, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Other Media

Batista rules During the recent china tour Batista was on a very big UK talk show and was called a wussy by a child on air for collecting lunch boxes: Source It may be an interesting bit to add to other media.

The same site also has a very good biography of Batista that may be worth adding as an external link: here —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skaterkee (talkcontribs) 14:35, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

there as been nothing added about 2008 like winning brand surpremity at wm24 or facing hbk over retirment to ric flair or even more recent almost winning a shot at the world title (smackdown not yet aired till friday) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.216.63.149 (talk) 21:34, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

None of those occurrences are notable to Batista's overall career. Per WP:PW, we don't add week-by-week results. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 21:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

yea but some have sence like winning brand surpemity at wm24 that has to be notable mean were 5 months in 2008 and he as nothing in there what about his chance at the us title or fude with hbk, mvp mainly the wm24 match he had desevrs mentioning its one of the few times they have these matchs KCDavis (talk) 14:36, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Add more to the 2008 year because this is down right stupid because Batista is the top dog on RAW and he has the least writing on his profile. Also change the 2003-2004 years into 2003 then 2004 seperate them ito indiviual years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LukasVandelanotte (talkcontribs) 20:14, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Article name

Why is the article named Dave Batista when his real name is Dave Bautista? The title used to be Batista, now why is it Batista? Shouldn't it be changed back?Skilldog2 (talk) 20:38, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Per here. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 20:58, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

The below section is pretty funny. It appears someone globally replace Bautista with Batista, so the entire discussion on the proper spelling of his name doesn't make any sense. JimG520 (talk) 17:51, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

his real name is bautista and he does not reside in los angels califorina he still reside in tampa florida he only spent the summer off and on in los angels getting movie rolls for work he still very much reside in tampa florida do to asthma he cant live in los angels california do to smog down in southern california for any reason or lenght of time and if he did live in california it be northern california he state that a few time now but as of right now he still reside in tampa florida you people need to the fact before posting on him and he debut in wrestling in 1999 with alfa not 1997 he was in jailat that itme for beating some guys bad and was married before starting wrestling to angie bautista so you need to fix the mistake on him if you dont knwo the fact better learn to ask him —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.93.105.10 (talk) 03:05, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Batista or Batista

The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was I hate bringing this up cause I know it's gonna be result in a debate, but I gotta ask anyway. Should Batista's article be re-named to Dave Batista or should it remain as Dave Batista?

Per WP:UCN, it appears that it should be listed as Dave Batista (WWF spelling) rather then the "real" spelling of his name. There are many examples that support this argument. Tazz, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, The Undertaker, etc, etc. But then there are some wrestlers whose real names are listed as their real names (despite being widely known by their ring names). Such examples include Anthony Carelli, Ken Anderson & Paul Wight. --Endless Dan 18:06, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, to aid in the discussion, "Dave Batista" gets 132,000 Google hits and "Dave Batista" get 23,300. Also, [http://www.amazon.com/Batista-Unleashed-Dave/dp/1416544100 on the cover of Batista Unleashed], it is spelled "Dave Batista". I support a rename. Nikki311 23:22, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Per Dan's and Nikki's comments, I too support a move.~SRX~ 23:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I agree, and with four supports, I moved the page. King iMatthew 2008 00:09, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Very cool. Now, should this be a standard for every wrestler (with a few exceptions)? If so, what's the case for Oscar Gutierrez and the other wrestlers I mentioned above? --Endless Dan 21:50, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

The article should most definitely be moved to Rey Mysterio. If anybody objects, please speak. King iMatthew 2008 22:48, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
I think it's too close to his uncle's name (especially with an ongoing debate about moving that uncle to Rey Misterio. I think it should be moved to Rey Mysterio, Jr., as it's the name he became famous under and it clearly differentiates the articles much better than Rey Misterio vs. Rey Mysterio would. GaryColemanFan (talk) 23:27, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
As for the others, I have no problem with moving Carelli or Anderson. Paul Wight should stay where it is, though, as The Giant was a very well-known ring name for him (under which he won the WCW World Championship twice). GaryColemanFan (talk) 23:30, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
I definitely support Wight staying as is. He amongst "the few exceptions" I mentioned above. I think legal names should be kept for folks who have done notable things under different names - like Wight (Giant, Show, etc) or Morrison (Nitro, Spade, Morrison). Is there anyone else out there who could be possibly moved? --Endless Dan 12:12, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Glen Jacobs to Kane (wrestler)? Gavyn Sykes (talk) 13:18, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Glen Jacobs was also Dr. Isaac Yankem, DDS and the "Fake Diesel". — Gwalla | Talk 20:49, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

But he is best known as Kane. King iMatthew 2008 20:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm well aware of his other ring names. But he's been known as Kane for over ten years. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 22:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
So yes, or no? King iMatthew 2008 22:26, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
My vote would be no. He was well-known under other ring names, so I think using his real name is the best way to go. I also hate having page titles end with (wrestler), which would have to be the case because Kane is a disambiguation page for 45 uses of "Kane". On top of that, Stevie Ray of Harlem Heat also wrestled under the ring name Kane during part of his time in WCW. GaryColemanFan (talk) 22:43, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

A google search for Glen Jacobs gets 557,000 hits, while a google search for Kane gets 49,300,000 hits. King iMatthew 2008 22:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

But how many of those hits aren't for "our" Kane? -The Hybrid- 22:52, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I didn't think of that, but for a google search of "Kane (wrestler), I get 756,000 hits. King iMatthew 2008 23:06, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I support a move of Jacobs to Kane (wrestler), a move of Gutierrez to Rey Mysterio, Jr., a move of Carelli to Santino Marella. However, what about Anderson (should it be moved to "Ken Kennedy" or just "Mr. Kennedy"), and any consensus about Alvin Burke, Jr?~SRX~ 23:09, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Let's take this one step at a time. King iMatthew 2008 23:15, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Big Boot?

I've been watching Smackdown and he's been using the big boot also i saw it during his Survivor Series 2007 match with Edge & Taker should we list it under signature moves?

name discrepancy

half the article calls him batista and the rest calls him bautista. Make a decision which way it should be spelled because it brings down the quality of the article69.3.144.108 (talk) 19:43, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

His real name is Batista, thus his real name is used in non-wrestling and personal life sections. His ring name/character's name is Batista, so wrestling sections use that. It doesn't bring down the quality of the article, it helps make the article coincide with Wikipedia's rules. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 19:47, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Look at his profile on his official page [1] his real name is David Michael Bautista Jr. --Romangelo (talk) 18:27, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

The Animal?

There is a link from The Animal to here, saying he is known as the Animal. However, nothing in the article suggests anything like that. Having not watched wrestling in forever, I've always assumed the Animal was George Steele. DandyDan2007 (talk) 01:54, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I added that link for disambiguation... he's been known as "the Animal" ever since he dropped the Deacon from his name, and his merchandise reflects this [2]. I suppose I should add George Steele as well, but I'm not sure if having multiple usages is per Wiki policy or if it should just redirect to the main Animal disamb page. Dating Kelly Kelly

The story of Batista dating Kelly seems to be out of his own imagination. The article citing it he says he dated her a few months ago. On Kelly Kelly's own myspace she made a blog on Nov. 8 saying she was still dating Test. The dates dont match up. I'm not going to delete it but, if you do a bit of research the stories dont match. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Juniorlizard (talkcontribs) 18:38, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

I agree. According to an interview with Beth Phoenix (as well as most of the WWE employees who had to work with him) Batista has never dated any of the Divas, not Kelly, not Melina, and not Rosa. All three have denied ever having any relationship with him or even contact outside of work. Also, numerous Superstars have stated that he was an absolute jackass who had almost no friends in the locker-room.

All we have to go on is his word and his word alone. Any mention of him dating Kelly or Melina was taken off of their pages years ago as it was unverified.

Year of birth

I remember seeing in a Power Slam magazine that his birthday was closer to 1960 than 1970, and that 1969 was just WWE trying to make him look younger than he really is. Anyone have clear proof one way or the other? Thanks.

iMDb lists him as born in 1966 [3] I'd rather trust a reliable site such as iMDb than his own site which can exaggerate stats due to WWE marketing him at such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dinot1985 (talkcontribs) 21:33, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Batista's Biceps injury

Batista's muscles were never accidentally damaged during the staged act where his arm is twisted. He already had the injury beforehand, and this was to cover up for the fact that he was going to undergo surgery either that night or Tuesday. This is also why he was allowed to win the title the night before. Somebody fix it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Terminegen (talkcontribs) 22:05, 7 July 2009

Not done: Welcome and thanks for wanting to improve this article. When you use the {{editsemiprotected}} template, you need to specify your request in a 'please change X to Y' level of detail. Also, for a factual change like this, you will need to provide a cite to some verifiable reliable source. Finally, you should also read our policy on civility. Calling your fellow editors idiots is counterproductive and unacceptable. Celestra (talk) 03:04, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Forget it. If inaccuracy is what wikipedia aims for, then go ahead and leave it unchanged. But just for the sake of properly informing people, look at this: http://www.wrestlingnewsarena.com/2009/06/breaking-news-top-raw-superstar-injured/ Put that in the cite Here's another one: http://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/wi/2009/0612/418203/batista/index.shtml

I have fixed it the best I can, leaving the wording ambiguous about when he was injured. Unfortunately, "dirt sheet" sites aren't very verifiable in situations like these, leaving us at the mercy of WWE's seemingly revisionist history. Bmg916Speak 15:41, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Mind you, WWE really likes covering up the real situations and events that happen to their wrestlers. It should be noted that in cases like WWE and professional wrestling companies, "dirt sheet" sites are the most reliable, since they clearly find out the truth for everything so far. Plus, those two articles clearly show that their information was not only correct, but they predicted correctly: Batista would give up the title on that Raw. Regarding Batista and his injury: He had it prior to his Extreme Rules match, but chose to continue the match to work up to that "brutal attack" the next night. This was a cover-up for the fact that he was scheduled to have his biceps surgery on Tuesday. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Terminegen (talkcontribs) 17:17, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

{{editsemiprotected}} I also want to add that the new edit, although improved from before, makes little sense. It's stated that he scripted to vacate his title that night. This implies that he already had his injury before Monday night (which is true) and that WWE was also already aware of it (also true), hence the script in the first place. Then, the citation refers to WWE's website, which totally contradicts the above statements. Why? Because the WWE citation implies the opposite: Legacy being the cause of his injury.

Might wanna fix that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Terminegen (talkcontribs) 17:23, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Even if the dirtsheet sites are 100% correct (such as in this case) they still can not be used a sources as they fail WP:RS and WP:V. Policy is policy, sorry. It's too early to say he's turned heel. After all, Mysterio cost him the title. He may have just temporarily lost his temper. If Mysterio had done that to me, I'd probably break him in half, too. Anyway, let's at least see what happens on Smackdown this week first. Nightmareishere (talk) 02:38, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
I agree, it's too early to confirm that he'll be a heel character. It might just a feud that they need to plot against. besides if it wasn't for rey, he should've been the world champ.Hydranoid15 (talk) 05:07, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Just to play devil's advocate, WWE is marketing him in promotions since Bragging Rights (on RAW and ECW) as a possible heel - albeit with a reason for his motives, but considering the crowd reaction, I'm inclined to be confused as to whether or not he is heel. I heard a LOT of cheers when he clotheslined Rey Mysterio. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ talk 20:32, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it's confusing. Many would say Rey Mysterio got what he deserved at Bragging Rights, but the way Batista attacked Matt Hardy from behind at Smackdown! could be further indication of a heel turn. Then again, he may wind up a tweener. It might still be too early to definitively say what he is going to be.98.220.41.194 (talk) 00:25, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Deacon Bautista

As far as I know, looking back on old SmackDown's when he was with D-Von, and with the Internet Time Machine for the 2002 SmackDown roster, he has never gone by Bautista. It's always since his debut, been spelled Batista

He isnt a mixed martial arts fighter.

there is no basis whatsoever for calling him a mixed martial arts fighter, the only thing used to back that up is that whilst drunk at a strikeforce event he wanted to fight for them but strikeforce have said that isnt going to happen.

if we called everybody who said they could do MMA whilst drunk a mixed martial artist then we would have a million such articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.27.2.224 (talk) 01:36, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Batista page

{{Edit semi-protected}} Could you please add that to the Dave Batista page that he practiced legit martial arts Kali (for years) and some Muay Thai?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQgrH72VEIc&feature=channel

From 00:35 to 00:50 into the video. You'll hear him say that he practiced Kali and Muay Thai. The interview is official and was done by FIGHT! Magazine. Please put that as reference to establish credibility/notability.

Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.52.28.84 (talk)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. A youtube video isn't considered a reliable source. -Atmoz (talk) 16:45, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

But the interview was done by FIGHT! Magazine. Google it, FIGHT! Magazine is a notable magazine. The video was official. It couldn't have been possibly just fan made. And besides, that was Batista himself that said it. That is extremely notable considering it came from the person's mouth. FIGHT! Magazine and Batista have enough notability for Wikipedia. And I know the Youtube is not a credible source BUT it's not Youtube that said all those info, it was Batista himself, conducted by FIGHT! Magazine. So this isn't a "Youtube" notability we're looking at, it's Batista's and FIGHT! Magazine's. And please watch the video first before deciding that It's not notable simply because it's from YouTube. It is not fan dubbed! That's Batista himself. His voice. I understand that it can be edited by some person that sounds like Batista and would just synchronize with his mouth movements, but come on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.52.28.84 (talk) 02:02, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Done. I don't think the intent here was to say he is a former mixed martial artist, but I agree the order made the sentence confusing. I rearranged the order of the lead sentence to make it more clear that he is a mixed martial artist...and former pro wrestler. —KuyaBriBriTalk 13:29, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Requested move (2013)

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. Just to clarify, the nominator did not strike their own (implied) support, and striking it is not necessary, nor is indicating it needed, but when it is done, it is correct to note "as nominator" as was done. Closers are not supposed to just count votes, and are expected to notice if a nominator indicates support. (non-admin closure) Apteva (talk) 21:44, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Dave BatistaBatista (wrestler) – Bautista was known professionally as "Bastista", not "Dave Batista". To the best of my knowledge, he has never performed nor been known as "Dave Batista". Having the article at Dave Batista is a hybrid of his real name and his professional name, which is potentially misleading and confusing. McPhail (talk) 15:55, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Support as nominator. McPhail (talk) 15:58, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose Batista is like Goldberg. Both started their careers as Bill Goldberg and Dave Batista, but they use only their last names. I think that a rule in wikipedia says that we can't choose surnames or last names as titles of articles. Also, Batista makes movies as Dave Batista and Dave Bautista. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 16:49, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose As HHH Pedigree noted, "Dave Batista" is used for his film credits, so it is not a made up name. And it is one that WWE used at the beginning of his run, at the time he was recruited into Evolution, with Ric Flair using it on screen. It is also a more natural disambiguator than parentheticals, which should be avoided in normal use if possible. Here it is possible. oknazevad (talk) 18:05, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose, nodding along with the above. InedibleHulk (talk) 18:46, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose, I will also nod with those above.LM2000 (talk) 18:45, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Since he is known outside of WWE under the full name (movies and MMA). Also the fact he used the name at the beginning of his run and was referred to as Dave Batista many times on TV after that. STATic message me! 02:42, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose, he's known for more than just wrestling. — Richard BB 07:57, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
  • 'Strong Oppose. 1) He hasn't used that mononym in years, 2) He is widely known under his full name, 3) He was also known by his full name in WWE. Feedback 18:48, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Suggested Move

Hi, this is my first time "suggesting", not really requesting unless you guys agree but I think instead of changing the page to Batista (wrestler) but "Dave Bautista" since that is his real name and its what he is starting to go by. Just a suggestion here since I'm not sure where to go for page moves, but reply to me to let me know. Sir Wrestler (talk) 05:53, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
