Chronology edit

I think putting info about previous and next singles into the info box is problematic because such releases differ from country to country – for example in the UK (if you discount "Computer Love" which was the original release of "The Model") then the previous release was Pocket Calculator" in May '81 and the next release was a slightly over-dubbed edited version of "Showroom Dummies" in April '82). Those ones currently in the info panel are the German sequence, but they have been given their English titles, which is confusing. It also suggests there is a chain of pages about KW's single releases, which there aren't. Ricadus 22:52, 12 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi mate, thanks for those comments and I agree with most of them. The single titles shown should probably include the German to avoid any confusion because it is the German sequence, deliberately as it's the home market and earliest releases, so will update that. The issue of discographies varying from country to country is the same for almost every artist and yet we do put previous and next releases for singles in almost every infobox out there, generally (but perhaps not always) based on the artist's home market which also tends to have the earliest releases. Re. your contention "It also suggests there is a chain of pages about KW's single releases", I don't think that's the purpose or implication of the Chronology section, it's to show the context of this release in the artist's catalogue, regardless of whether there are articles for all those items in Wikipedia (if there are, the previous and next releases have links). Based on what happens elsewhere in Wikipedia (e.g. the Beatles UK/US albums releases) I have expanded the chronology to show the song's different sequence of release in the Germany/Austria/Switzerland and international territories.Ricadus 14:13, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
No argument there. I've just 'wikified' a couple of the single titles to reflect WP:SONG standards (double quotes rather than italics). Also, following the Beatles example, added 'UK' to the second row (may be other markets as well but UK is approp. example due to the chart possie). Cheers, Ian Rose 15:19, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Spelling edit

I notice that the title of this page is spelt with two Ls (Modell) but the cover of the single is spelt with one. In German there are the words "Model" and "Modell". "Das Model" is a fashion model, male or female (das being neuter) but "Das Modell" is a term used for a computer or mathematical model. Hence, this page should be entitled "Das Model" and not "Das Modell". LewisR 17:35, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The German version of the Man Machine album actually has the track listed as Das Modell. Possibly it is a deliberate pun rather than a typo, a suggetion that human desire, though associated with the notion of free will, follows a predictable pattern, being the result bio-chemical reactions to stimuli: man as sex-machine, etc... Too POV to put into the article though, but why else would that track be on that album? Ricadus 22:33, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Browsing through album covers for the original 1978 LP release on Discogs you find instances of both spellings across differing editions, though there seems to be no edition which has the song consistently spelled as "Das Model" everywhere (label, inner sleeve, back cover). Plus the 80s CD re-release seems to be entirely and consistently spelled as "Das Modell", too.
On the other hand the single release seems to have exclusively used "Das Model" with only one 'l' right from the start, plus the 2009 remaster of the album spells it as "Das Model", too (except on the iTunes store, where the double 'l' spelling seems to have persisted). However, to further confuse matters…

In German there are the words "Model" and "Modell". "Das Model" is a fashion model, male or female (das being neuter) but "Das Modell" is a term used for a computer or mathematical model.

that's true these days, but as per [1] and [2] it seems that originally "Modell" was used for referring to fashion models, too, with the English spelling only starting to become popular in the 80s and finally overtaking "Modell" somewhere in the 1990s/2000s. Covers edit

Someone should add that a Finnish humppa band "Eläkeläiset" has also covered "Das Modell" with their "Humppamalli" which is a Finnish-sung humppaversion of the song.80.186.47.233 17:05, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've heard a classical string quartet perform a cover on the radio, but didn't learn who they were. It was background music for a popular science programme. I was hoping to learn more here...--Mátyás (talk) 20:22, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've learned that it was the Balanescu Quartet. Could have guessed by the name, right? Well, I didn't. --... there's more than what can be linked. 19:45, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

The result was merge into Das Model. -- EHonkoop (talk) 07:28, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is there a special reason why there is a separate article (Das Modell (Rammstein song)) about the Rammstein version of the same song? Both articles are small enough to merge them together. EHonkoop (talk) 08:11, 4 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Strongly Agree as per original poster. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.108.145.29 (talk) 16:46, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've done the merge. EHonkoop (talk) 07:20, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

The articles must be merged edit

These articles talk about of the same song, and for policy of wikipedia simply must be merged. —Preceding unsigned comment added by OscarFercho (talkcontribs) 17:34, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
