What is an aviation accient

Read this- An aviation accident is defined by the Convention on International Civil Aviation Annex 13 as an occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft which takes place between the time any person boards the aircraft with the intention of flight until such time as all such persons have disembarked, in which a person is fatally or seriously injured, the aircraft sustains damage or structural failure or the aircraft is missing or is completely inaccessible.

You left out an important part: "except when the injuries are from natural causes, self inflicted or inflicted by other persons, or when the injuries are to stowaways hiding outside the areas normally available to the passengers and crew..." So if it turned out to be a terrorist act (not impossible in Nigeria) would it still be an "accident"? A deliberate act is never an accident, even under the ICAO's definition. Harry I accept your point about accident but I have put back the standard heading - Incident and accidents whatever the cause it is one or the other which is why it is used as a header we dont need to make up headings when the project guideline gives us one. In which case it should be "Incident or accident" because there is only one, and we don't know which it is yet. But it is more accurate to call it the 3 June crash. If the word crashed is OK in the body, the word crash should be OK in the header. The BBC ref (hardly a tabloid source) calls it the "Lagos air crash". That is accurate. This heading is not. It's not about making up headings, it's about being accurate, which is what Wikipedia is all about. If the standard headings don't accurately convey what happened, then use words that do.
