Cross Lake First Nation is an appropriate subject for an article. It is among the 10 largest first nations in canada. Is is in a very interesting situation as one of very few FNs that has reconciled with its indigenous roots. It (and its indigenous counterpart Pimicikamak) is the subject of intense interest from the serious academic players, led by Harvard University, for its innovative approach to reconciling its own customary (and valid) laws with those of Canada (called legal mediation by one observer, Galit Sarfaty, but "reconciliation" by the Supreme Court of Canada. Of course the governments of Canada and Manitoba wrap themselves in the flag of good aboriginal governance but do their best to shut it down. The interesting thing is that they have not succeeded. The main reason is that Cross Lake First Nation and Pimicikamak - often at loggerheads - have more often supported each other. This is a story that should be told. It is also a story that needs care and accuracy because governments are doing their well-financed best to blur the distinctions. It is also a story about a Prime Ministerial apology for a policy that his government continues to implement. It needs to be told with encyclopedic dispassion, but it is a story that belongs in any self-respecting encyclopedia. Fhusis (talk) 06:07, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
