Population

The population changes dramatically between summer and winter because most of the fishermen live here only during fishing season. Someone might want to say something about this. — Vedrfolnir (talk · contribs) 11:31, October 27, 2005 (UTC)

Someone took off the section about Dick Little...... Why?Aybabtussit (talk) 03:35, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Unless you can provide a valid source for this "Dick Little" it will be removed. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. --Vedrfolnir (talk) 05:30, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Merge Orca Bay, Alaska with Orca Inlet?

Are these the same place? Please respond at Talk:Orca Bay, Alaska#Merge Orca Bay with Orca Inlet? --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 06:31, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for responding. I have a follow up question: It is not clear to me whether the historic name of Puerto Córdova applies to the inlet or the bay. Anyone have access to pre-1909 charts or maps? Answers at Talk:Orca Bay, Alaska again, please. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 15:27, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

-Orca Inlet and Orca Bay are NOT the same body of water. Cordova is located on Orca Inlet, which opens to Orca Bay at the Northeastern end. To the Southwest, Orca Inlet joins with the Hawkins Island Cutoff leading also to Orca Bay, and Strawberry Channel, which leads to the Copper River Flats and the Gulf of Alaska66.223.160.251 (talk) 10:47, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Record 15 feet of snow fall, resources

See Extreme weather 99.190.83.211 (talk) 08:39, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

I heard it was up to 19 feet. I do believe this is a notable event in the history of this town, given that they have had to call in the National Guard to cope with the situation. When I have a moment I'll try to write it up. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:14, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
  • As a local resident who has lived here for a few years, I can say that the amount of snow that fell in December and early January totaled over 20 feet, and was a significant event, probably on a scale not seen since the early 1970's. Actual records are difficult to verify, due to the nature of local micro-climates and lack of historical continuity. Measurements taken at the airport are most commonly used as official numbers, but aren't very accurate in terms of what has happened in Cordova proper, about 11 miles away. In fact, precipitation totals in town often double those at the airport. All in all, the general consensus is that Cordova received over 30 feet of snow in the winter of 2011-2012, and it was likely the most since 1973 or so. Valdez gets this much snow fairly often, but they have large snow dump lots and regularly dump snow in Port Valdez, if rumors are to be believed. Cordova struggled with getting permission to dump in the inlet, and that caused a major backup which led to the 'disaster.' Having a place to put snow is absolutely critical, as we learned this past winter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.223.160.251 (talk) 10:39, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
