I wrote this on Cooper-Church Amendment, then realized there was a Cooper-Church amendment page when I attempted to move it. I redirected Cooper-Church Amendment here.

The Case-Church Amendment was an amendment by the United States Senate, passed on June 30, 1973. The ammendment was the first time that the Congress had resticted the deployment of troops during a war and voted against the wishes of the president. The vote was 58-37 in the Senate. The United States House of Representatives did not approve a modified version of the bill until December of 1973. Schmitz states that the amendment was a landmark in the history of opposition to the war, congressional initiatives to bring the fighting to an end, and efforts to control exececutive power in foreign policy. ==Notes== <div class="references-small"> <!--See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Footnotes for an explanation of how to create footnotes using the <ref(erences/)> tags--> <references/> </div> ==See also== *Case-Church amendment stub
