@Hike395: Greetings Hike395. Thanks for supplying a better image for the lede section. I fixed the caption, however, as the Mountain in the background is Mt. Morrison. Laural Mountain is about 6+ miles south of the lake. See map Our family was up at Mammoth Lakes for a few days last week. Beautiful country!! We also hiked around Convict Lake and took plenty of photos. I had added one of mine to this article, however, the image you added shows the lake much better -- thanks. The color of the water, turquoise-blue, is striking. I'm wondering what makes the lake this color. The story about Convict Lake, and how it got its name, is truly fascinating. I take it from your User name you are more than familiar with the area, and highway 395. Just wanted to say howdy and share a few thoughts. - @Gwillhickers: Hi, Gwill. Check out the topo map here. Laurel Mountain is to the ESE of Convict Lake, and it's the mountain visible towards the back of the lake. Mount Morrison is really south of the lake, and is off to the left side of the lake (looking from the outflow). I spend a lot of time in Mammoth, so know the area pretty well. If you ever have a chance to go back to Lake Dorothy, I highly recommend it. —hike395 (talk) 05:42, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

- Nice. I'm hoping to get this article to GA, and get a hook for DYK going. Interesting history! I am semi-retired, and if Mammoth wasn't covered with snow most of the year I'd consider moving up there. If we did, I'd have to buy another pair of cross-country skies - not much use for those here in the Mojave Desert. ;-)

Citations and sources edit
Am in the process of moving all the source listings mixed in with the text and linking to them via the citations, making editing and navigating the article easier. This is the way it's done in many GA and FA articles. e.g. The George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant articles are good examples.
