Second oldest newspaper?

There needs to be some discussion over the Spectator's status as the "second oldest college newspaper." Firstly, The Crimson was founded in 1873 and claims to be the oldest continuously published college daily newspaper in the United States, not simply the oldest. The Dartmouth says that it is the oldest college newspaper and claims its roots as far back as 1799; it has been in continuous operation since 1843, before it evolved into a daily. It seems then that the Spectator is at least the third oldest college newspaper and perhaps the second oldest continually published newspaper. I'm going to remove the reference. No offense, but I don't see the need to mention The Dartmouth in the intro paragraph, as its claims to "oldest college daily" have always been somewhat tenuous. I removed it but kept your "continuity" reference. Perhaps we could add The Dartmouth as a footnote if necessary. cjs 22:04, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
