"The Crying Nazi"

I believe my edit was wrongly reverted. This phrasing seems to imply that Christopher Cantwell is a "nazi". This is very loaded language that trivializes nazism. Shouldn't Wikipedia be an objective encyclopedia? Why use such language and not stick to more objective terms? 173.35.40.205 (talk) 20:57, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia uses whatever independent reliable sources use. The "Crying Nazi" claim is sourced to three different sources. If you have independent sources that describe him differently, please offer them. 331dot (talk) 23:54, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
"The "Crying Nazi" claim is sourced to three different sources." Every other suace just calls him Cantwell 77.97.97.21 (talk) 16:31, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
So what? Three different sources call him that, and -- assuming your statement is true -- what other sources DON'T say is irrelevant to the fact that three sources DO. --Calton | Talk 00:36, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
It is an objective encyclopedia - this is a commonly used name for Mr Cantwell in the media and elsewhere, it is not an appellation that Wikipedia has created based on his political opinions. Eilidhmax (talk) 23:55, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
We cover the reliably-sourced fact that people do call him "The Crying Nazi", without judging whether or not they should. –dlthewave 01:17, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Clearly a smear. He is “known as such” because it is literally the first sentence of his Wikipedia article that is the first thing you see when typing his name in Google. Not acceptable 204.48.93.218 (talk) 18:47, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
As indicated, it is sourced to three different sources; this isn't something that Wikipedia came up with on its own or endorses, it just is. Wikipedia covers what independent sources state. If you disagree with their characterization of him, you will need to take it up with them. 331dot (talk) 21:10, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
From what I can tell, the description was added to this article on April 29, 2018. The sources used to support that this is his nickname predate that, some by several months. Try again. GorillaWarfare (talk) 03:56, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
It's pretty laughable that people whine about this when HE HIMSELF DESCRIBES HIMSELF AS A FUCKING NAZI! It's not a smear or a trivialization, it's completely self-proclaimed 2003:EE:CF08:AECD:51B3:F76E:5C0C:CC08 (talk) 21:02, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
Does he? It might be valuable to mention that in the article, if there's a reliable source that supports it. GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:06, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
Hmm. He has a video of himself debating another person on his website titled "Hippy vs. Nazi" (dated May 9, 2019) but an earlier post (January 5, 2018) titled "Quick Reminder – I am Not A Nazi or White Supremacist" in which he says "I am a white nationalist, and there is an important distinction between these ideologies." GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:09, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
That was over one year ago, shortly after his incarceration, when he was still in denial. Nowadays, he openly refers to himsmelf as a Nazi. Just search his website, you'll find dozens of hits.2003:EE:CF08:AEEC:38D3:C396:631C:69DB (talk) 06:55, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
I see. If there's an independent reliable source that confirms he self-identifies as a Nazi it might be worthwhile to mention in the article. GorillaWarfare (talk) 15:46, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

Does Elizabeth Warren list her nickname as "Pohcahontas". How about Obama as "Obumba". Common insults don't constitute nicknames and certainly have no place in the headline. This isn't a mob boss or a rapper who goes by that alternate name. This is just an insult. Erik10293802023 (talk) 18:33, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

The statement is cited to three different sources and is relevant to what this individual is known for. "Pocahontas" is just a political insult. 331dot (talk) 20:03, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
So if I find three articles calling Elizabeth Warren "Pohcahontas" we can get that added to her article, got it. Removing. Erik10293802023 (talk) 14:47, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Erik10293802023 That's not what I said, and you need to stop your edit warring. 331dot (talk) 14:51, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
I submitted an editor assistance request. Unless there's another article you can show where a political insult is included in the opening sentence of an article I don't see any way to justify this. Erik10293802023 (talk) 14:56, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
This is not a political insult, it is how independent sources describe him, he has also described himself as a Nazi. 331dot (talk) 15:00, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

This Article Is Communist Propaganda

This article is a fine example of why no one to the right of Karl Marx should ever donate a penny to Wikipedia! AlexLibman (talk) 07:11, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Without naming any specific issues you have with this article, this kind of comment is completely unhelpful. GorillaWarfare (talk) 07:22, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Source Material

I'm not familiar with the Wikipedia standards for publishing so I want to leave this archived blog with quite a lot of linked material, it goes over a lot of Chris' history: https://web.archive.org/web/20190203210133/https://cognitame.com/blog.php?id=46

Because it's archived it's lost a lot of the media embeds. However the original post was using raw mp4's for video and those were archived. I'll list some important parts below:

  • Chris ran a website pretending to be another activist, Antonio Buehler, just to smear his image. (That website is now archived.)
  • After a facebook argument he drove to someones house and threatened them with bear mace. Chris made a video explaining the situation as he drove. That video is archived and on the page.
  • He appeared on the Colbert Report after harassing meter maids. Video archived.
  • He drove through a libertarian festival drunk, the original article is still live.
  • There is a short video of him slapping a phone out of someones hand and pushing them.
  • He started filming a couple arguing coming out of a bar (they were with some other friends) and pulled a gun on them when a girl ran at him. Video archived.
  • He got in a fight after a radio show on the front porch of the studio with a drunk person. Video archived.
  • After he got kicked out of libertarianism (see below) he started to rebrand to a more racist audience. But had to start banning them from the chat on his show after he started dating a Puerto Rican. Video archived.
  • There is archived audio of a piece called 'How to Hit Your Girlfriend' which he released after he tried to bribe an ex for money or he would doxx her and turn his audience on her.
  • Archived video of his mental breakdown after he created that drama.
  • More archived audio like "I Almost Committed a Hate Crime" and "Radical Relationship"

After all that it gets into the 'Crying Nazi' phase that's well documented elsewhere.

There's quite a lot linking to his website. Archived versions are behind a paywall or moved. I didn't look too much into previous versions. Maybe a lot of that content can be found still. Things like making the argument that you're justified shooting a mailman if he steps on your flower bed, or if someone steals a paperclip. Saying that the murder of cops does more for libertarianism than the libertarian party.

There are links stating he got kicked out of CopBlock, the Free State Project, LibertyFest, FreeTalkLive, the Men's Rights Movement, the Keene Activist Center, Anarchapulco, and is generally blacklisted from a lot of similar events.

I think you guys are better at deciding what needs to be on the main page or not. But if you want to take a look at this. Here it is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C40:5B00:7C16:8171:3D37:723F:17B3 (talk) 20:27, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

I don't think this is a usable source, per WP:BLOG, and especially since you're suggesting it be used for controversial claims about a living person (which requires a higher standard of sourcing). It's a little hard to navigate since it's archived, but I'm not seeing any indication that the author is some sort of subject-matter expert on Cantwell, extremism, etc. GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:51, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
The videos are mostly from his own show and youtube channel, and one post from the Free Keene blog. Which, I think on this subject has some authority. Especially consdering the article goes over he once cohosted the radio show associated with it. As the title suggests, there is a lot of source to dig into here as far as getting more of his history. The important matter I think are the video and audio which is Chris Cantwell himself (which in itself is a lot of stuff to go over) and what's referenced I think can be researched. 2600:6C40:5B00:7C16:8171:3D37:723F:17B3 (talk) 21:07, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Siblings

@ElNuevoEinstein: Do you happen to have a timestamp for when the video reference you added verifies the statement around Cantwell's half siblings? I searched through the YouTube transcript and am not seeing it, though the autotranslation quality is mediocre so it may just be not hitting my search keywords. GorillaWarfare (talk) 15:05, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

I am currently going through the entire interview, I will give the timestamp as soon as I reach it. --ElNuevoEinstein (talk) 16:52, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! GorillaWarfare (talk) 16:53, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
It is 2:59:11, but in a different YouTube video. I will improve the ref as soon as I am at home. ElNuevoEinstein (talk) 18:22, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Done. --ElNuevoEinstein (talk) 19:46, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Appreciate you tracking that down! GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:01, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for improving the formatting of the ref. The video is actually not by Elle Reeve, it is a copy of Cantwell's own recording of the interview, published originally on his website but no longer available there. So I guess technically the ref is still not all right. --ElNuevoEinstein (talk) 20:03, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
Ah, thanks, fixed. GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:34, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Somebody needs to go through the archive of his Radical Agenda, there's a ton of material in it hitherto unused in the article

The archive of the first 348 episodes can be found here: [1] He unveils a lot of details about his childhood in some of the episodes that could be used for this article. I've only been going through a small part of this treasure of dung and garbage, and it's is morbidly fascinating. --ElNuevoEinstein (talk) 21:56, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Maybe @GorillaWarfare? --ElNuevoEinstein (talk) 21:58, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
@ElNuevoEinstein: I have absolutely 0 interest in doing that, personally. If you find anything you think ought to be used, just keep WP:ABOUTSELF in mind. Additionally it will be helpful if you can provide a timestamp so the rest of us don't have to wade through long episodes to verify statements—{{cite AV media}} has some special parameters to help with it.
