Confusing

I was trying to make sense of this section:

The Quingnam language is a Peruvian pre-Columbian language that disappeared from the area before the beginning of the Chimu Empire. Quingnam was spoken by ethnic Chimu, who lived in the former territories of the Mochicas: an area North of Chicama Chao River Valley. At the height of Chimú conquests, the language was spoken extensively from the Jequetepeque river in the North, to the Carabayllo (near Lima) in the South. It was the language that prevailed in the Chimu culture. Quignam was related to the language of the Mochica, muchik. The Chimu spoke Mochica or muchik as the common language, while Chimú fishermen had a dialect referred to as "fisherwoman language" by the Spanish missionaries.

The section says that Quingnam both predominated in Chima culture and that the Chimu spoke another language. it also says that the language vanished from the area before the Chimu Empire, but a later paragraph says that it only vanished after the Spanish conquest. As the Chimu Empire predated the conquest, then the language must not have vanished, OR, the language was not eliminated by the Spanish conquest.

Am I just missing something, or does this present a very contradictory message on whether or not Quinqnam was spoken by the Chimu or not, and how long it was spoken? If this is the result of conflicting scholarly opinion, shouldn't it be made clear that there are varying opinions, who supports them, and what they are, rather than simply mashing them all into one large block of self-contradictory text?

Unfortunately, as I came here looking for information, I don't know enough to edit this into something resembling coherence. And I don't feel comfortable deleting the whole mess and hoping someone comes along to replace it with a coherent text. bad reference?

Minor Issue

I don't claim to speak any of the native languages here but Cuidadela sounds like it was derived from Spanish rather than an indigenous name which "The hierarchy was centered at the walled cities, called ciudadelas, at Chan Chan" seems to imply. "More distant relatives":

Under "Split inheritance", the phrase "more distant relatives" seems to me ambiguous - in the book "1491" (Mann), I think it says that rulers "kept" their "palaces" after they died. -lifeform (talk) 00:10, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
