Title edit

"Cottage behind the village" - shouldn't that be "beyond" the village? Malick78 (talk) 14:21, 13 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sounds better to me. Ping User:Nihil novi, User:Poeticbent. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:44, 15 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
The title of Kraszewski's novel Chata za wsią should certainly be rendered in English as The Cottage beyond the Village or The Cottage outside the Village.
There's a bigger problem, though. The current English-language article reads as if it has been translated from the Polish Wikipedia by an illiterate computer. The article will need to be translated from scratch by a competent bilingual translator.

In the "Józef Ignacy Kraszewski" article, the novel's title is Englished as The Hut outside the Village.

"Motruna" or "Mortuna"? edit

I have now completed my re-translation of the Polish Wikipedia article from which this English Wikipedia article was taken.

Does anyone know whether the character's name is "Motruna" or "Mortuna"? The first version appears till the last mention of the character, when the second spelling is used.

Moved to Polish title edit

Per #Title, if there is no definitive English name (WP:COMMONNAME) we should use the original title rather then try to invent the English title. The title is often not translated (ex. [1], [2]). Various translated titles used in English: The Cottage Beyond The Village ([3], [4], [5]), The cottage outside the village, ([6]), The Cottage behind the Village ([7]. [8], [9]), The Hut near the Village, ([10]),, A Hut Outside the Village ([11])... Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:54, 22 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
