posthumous award?

edit

Interesting that In 1787, Mason was awarded £750, when he died one year earlier. I wonder if this was meant to be in the Posthumous recognition section? Or are the dates wrong? martin (talk) 12:11, 7 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would not call it a posthumous recognition necessarily. The award was made after he died primarily because the process for judging the merit of a contribution was so slow. It *should* have happened in his lifetime. It is technically "posthumous" but not as an official commemoration of a body of work over a lifetime but only as a matter of bad timing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mungerphut (talkcontribs) 22:18, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
