Catalina 27 Association External Link edit

The external link to the International Catalina 27/270 Association has been removed from this page a couple of times. I'd like to make the argument for keeping it permanently. The apparent purpose of the association (and its website) is to provide a free clearinghouse for detailed information related to the Catalina 27 & 270 - such as boat specifications, racing class rules, formal reviews, original manufacturer brochures, original boat and equipment manuals, original parts catalogs, manufacturer's detailed drawings, racing fleet points of contact, and free/open public forum for discussing issues related to the subject. As the manufacturer has discontinued production of this vessel and does not provide any public-facing resources for the C27, this website serves as the closest thing to an official website. While the association offers paid memberships, those memberships are not prominently promoted, and membership is not required to access any of the information detailed above. As the editor who first added the link, I have no affiliation with the association nor care to promote it in any way, and I don't believe the addition of the link constitutes link spam under WP:LINKSPAM. I added the link in order to provide neutral and accurate material that is relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject and cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to [a high] amount of detail per WP:EL; and I believe it is useful and appropriate for it to remain on the page.--Mindfrieze (talk) 20:59, 2 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I don't believe it belongs on Wikpedia. It just promotes the association and doesn't serve any other purpose. If the assoc has specific information that can be used to expand the article (boat's history, race records, etc) then fine, add the text and cite the ref, but otherwise WP:LINKSPAM covers it. - Ahunt (talk) 01:16, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
With all due respect, WP:LINKSPAM does not apply. The external link was NOT added for the purpose of promoting a website or a product..., and the website does very little to promote itself. Neither the act of adding the link, nor the link itself qualify as promotion per WP:PROMOTION. The external link serves the purpose of providing fine-grained information to readers looking for more details on the article subject beyond the encyclopedic entry and thus is appropriate per WP:ELYES. It also is does not fall within any of the categories of links to avoided per WP:ELNO.--Mindfrieze (talk) 17:39, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Having been through the website in question, I don't see what you are terming "fine-grained information to readers looking for more details on the article subject beyond the encyclopedic entry". Perhaps you can point out some things there that are unique, but would not be useful to be added to the article? - Ahunt (talk) 18:31, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
