Spam Magnet

edit

User:2005 -- The spam-magnet nature of Cassava's affiliate programs surely deserves mention. This article itself was just vandalized by an affiliate hoping to capture traffic for their account by placing their affiliate information into all of the outgoing URLs. I know of at least one blog which has blocked the specific string 'pacific poker' in comments and trackbacks specifically due to the overwhelming about of spam from affiliates hoping to cash in. Isn't it relevant to the article to mention this? --Stephen Deken 04:10, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I can't imagine what you are thinking here. They have an affiliate program. Some people spam involving it. So? That is the case with any affiliate program where there is money to be made, and certainly not news nor a reason to specifically mention in this article compared to any other. 2005 06:19, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
The reason I had mentioned it at all was to clarify that it is not Cassava doing the spamming, but third-party affiliates. I've had to clarify that in the past for people who thought that Cassava was directly encouraging people to spam. --Stephen Deken 14:59, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
But again there is nothing unique about the situation. It's like saying they breathe. Any affiliate program has affiliates spamming. 2005 20:42, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Not to belabor the point, but then why is there vastly less spam for, say, Amazon.com's affiliate program? --Stephen Deken 01:10, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
It is belaboring the point, but Amazon's program has massive amounts of spam and "near spam" as all those junk copied datafeed sites are spam of a kind. More to answer your question though, there is more money in gambling affliate programs by far so of course there is more spam. 2005 07:47, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Good enough for me. Thanks. --Stephen Deken 13:20, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Adware nature

edit

Why is there no mention in this article about their underhand advertising methods. For example - this company has pop-ups on untrustworthy sites, all of their websites try to get users to download software, the website makes your browser window full screen and users cannot go back out of their websites without another pop up window. Someone needs to write something about their underhand behaviour.

All that is common on the Internet, and hardly more than extreme trivia. The article isn't about the html on their websites. (And what does any of this have to do with "adware"?) 2005 19:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Defamation and article protection

edit

I've seen IP addresses adding unsourced allegations about unfair practices by one of their poker sites. Unless sources are provided—secondary sources like media coverage—the information cannot remain in the article.

Because it's being added by multiple IP addresses, I have semi-protected the article. —C.Fred (talk) 15:42, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, it was getting a bit ridiculous. --Gibmetal 77talk 17:04, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed move to 888 Holdings

edit

It would be logical to move this whole article so the title becomes 888 Holdings. If anyone has any objections please advise. Dormskirk (talk) 21:08, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Originally in an afd discussing the various arms of this company it was put here, but 888 Holdings seems much better to me. 2005 (talk) 21:39, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I too agree with moving to 888 Holdings. Rray (talk) 13:56, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

What is the official name of this company? Is there some confusion? I can't recall from/find the afd debate SmartGuy (talk) 15:36, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

888 Holdings is the official name of the publically traded company. Cassava is the majority owner of the company (the previous ownership group kept control when it went public), at least that is my understanding. I can understand the logic of having Cassava as the article, but 888 Holdings is more consistent with the structure we have, and also the listed on the London stock exchange category. 2005 (talk) 21:17, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK. I have moved the text over to 888 Holdings (I could not do a straight forward move as 888 Holdings already had a history). Please can someone do a history merge. Dormskirk (talk) 22:46, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am undoing the move, as the text there was only redirects. —C.Fred (talk) 23:43, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Move completed, but Dormskirk's follow-on edits are hiding from me. —C.Fred (talk) 23:48, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done. —C.Fred (talk) 23:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Do you think it would be useful to add external links to 888.com products that are mentioned in the article such as www.888.com, www.pacificpoker.com, www.888ladies.com and www.888sport.com? --Orisen (talk) 10:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

A laundry list of links to all their products is not needed, but a link to their main consumer site should be there and it links to all the others. 2005 (talk) 11:50, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
It looks like the 888.com domain has been added to the spam blacklist for repeated spamming all over the place, so the corporate site will have to do. 2005 (talk) 11:58, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Gibraltar ???

edit

It is obvious that no top management member, and none of the important facilities is located or acting from Gibraltar, which is needed in order to define this location as the Headquarters. I suggest to delete the headquarters from the template. Any objections (or other suggestions how to deal with this case)? Orielno (talk) 04:24, 28 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Changes

We work with 888 Holdings plc to support on corporate communications. We have some suggested changes below.

Descriptor: 888 Holdings plc is not commonly known as 888.com as this is not a brand. Replace "888 Holdings plc, known commonly as 888.com, is a public company which owns several popular gambling brands and websites" with "888 Holdings plc is a public company which owns several popular gambling brands and websites, including 888sport, 888casino and 888poker."

Factbox: Replace "Brian Mattingley" as Chairman within Key People with "Lord Jonathan Mendelsohn" as Chairman (Source: https://www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/888/directorate-change/14885302) Replace "Website: 888holdingsplc.com" with "www.corporate.888.com" Add "SI Sportsbook" to "brands" section (Source: https://www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/888/u-s-partnership-with-sports-illustrated/15030524; https://www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/888/si-sportsbook-launches-in-colorado/15125093) Remove: "Trade name: 888.com". Replace with "888 Holdings plc"

History: Add new section called: Partnership with Sports Illustrated Include the following text: In June 2021, 888 announced a partnership with Authentic Brands Group, owners of Sports Illustrated, to develop Sports Illustrated online sports betting and iGaming products in the United States. In September 2021, SI Sportsbook launched in Colorado. (Source: https://www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/888/u-s-partnership-with-sports-illustrated/15030524; https://www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/888/si-sportsbook-launches-in-colorado/15125093)

Brands: 888casino Include: In July 2019, 888casino was named Operator of the Year at EGR Operator Awards 2019. (Source: https://www.irishpost.com/entertainment/888casino-wins-egr-award-operator-year-173547)

Senior management and financial: Add new line with: On 3 March 2021, 888 Holdings appointed Lord Jonathan Mendelsohn as Chairman. (Source: https://www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/888/directorate-change/14885302) :  Not done: Poor formatting: I don't understand what to implement for this ER. Quetstar (talk) 18:59, 14 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: Hi. Thank you for your request. I couldn't add the Partnership bit due to the fact there are no secondary sources. Please request this again if you can provide them. The award wasn't added either due to lack of notability. Finally, the website in the infobox cannot be changed at this time given there's a Wikipedia-wide blacklist for the 888.com URL. I have never requested a delisting, but in this case I don't think it would be successful given the propensity these links would continue to be used for spamming.
