False Information

edit

I know that our squabble with Deford is a separate issue, but I cannot help but notice that the information on Cass City High School is also false. When you go to the Cass City Public School's website: [1], it clearly states in the About Us section that the entire district of Cass City Public schools is home to around 1,500 and 1,600. I'm not sure how this would allow for Cass City High School to be bigger than the entire district itself. With help from the MHSAA website [2] and City-data.com [3], both verify that the High School student population is currently at around 460-470 students. Also, I understand that we probably will never come to an agreement about the Class Status, but MHSAA [4] has a page that clearly defines how to come up with their numbers. It clearly states that Cass City High School is a Class C school because it has less than 488 students. I hope that these sources are reputable enough. Thank you. I have decided to edit the page because the information provided has failed to back itself up with reliable and verifiable sources. I also noticed that if it were true that Cass City High School held over 1,900 students, 27 classrooms would mean about 70 students to one classroom. And also, the student to teacher ratio would be 76:1. Mrhercli89 (talk) 21:47, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am unsure why you undid my edit. My facts have been verified by sources. Unfortunately, yours have not. Mrhercli89 (talk) 01:19, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Those sources seem to be reputable enough, and because Emily Bernette has not posted any response to you here, I don't see any of her side of it. Emily, please do not remove cited information. If you have a problem with it, please use the talk page. Mrhercli89, please do not revert or remove what Emily has done if she did anything; ask her why she did what she did, and if you do not get a response within a few days or so, then revert, but allow communication to determine the article, NOT edit warring. That goes for both of you. Thank you for asking for outside assistance, that will prove much more effective dealing with the matter yourself, creating a larger dispute. Note however: I am not an administrator; Toddst1 is, but I don't think you'll need specifically admin help, unless it becomes a matter of blocks (but let's not let it reach that point, 'kay?). Also, specific pages don't have admins for them, but that's a small point, and may be a response due to a misunderstanding on my part. Oh well.
That was long, so take this as a rule of thumb: If it's referenced, don't remove it; ask on the talk page. If it's removed, don't revert; ask why on the talk page of the article or the user. If nothing happens, revert, and state this. If that fails, do not edit war; ask for outside help. Thanks. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 01:35, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much Lәo. I will wait until I hear a response back from Emily. In which case, I hope that Emily understands and allows for my edit to stand. However, I am wondering what happens if this user continues to disagree with my sited information. Should I also ask for outside help then? Mrhercli89 (talk) 01:40, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately editors may never see eye to eye. That is the nature of the beast. First and foremost you should try and talk it out, either on the article's talk page on one of your own. This will allow you to communicate between one another, and if you both act civil, then some compromise must be met eventually. Don't misunderstand me here: as an encyclopedia, we represent the truth, uncensored and properly referenced. A compromise does not mean "deciding the truth" but instead "how best to represent the truth."
If a civil, plain discussion on the matter doesn't work, then request outside help. There are multiple ways to do this: first (and probably the fast and most efficient) is to ask a user to weigh in upon the matter as a third opinion. You can do this by either asking a use you know to weigh in (but they must remain impartial) or file a report at WP:3O, a noticeboard for that exact purpose. You may notice that the issues surrounding these articles have found their way to WP:3O already. Another way of requesting outside help is to make a Request for Comment. This will allow people to see the request, and join the debate if they feel like it. RFCs are usually used for guideline issues or high-priority issues on articles. Also, as a friendly reminder, you (or anyone reading this) may ask me for help at anytime. I will, usually, reply quickly. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 04:33, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I see that references were placed in the places where I edited, but the references do not lead to anything that backs up the information provided. Also, the references about the Quiz Bowl and such do not even mention Cass City. I strongly recommend that they be removed. I can provide the proper information and references if allowed. Mrhercli89 (talk) 04:21, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I will look into the claims you bring up. In the mean time, post references that you believe do back up the information, and post them here. If they are valid (or just as valid) we will post them. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 04:33, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Cass City High School is home to 465 students [5] and is also a Class C school district. The entire district of Cass City Public Schools is home to around 1,500 to 1,600 [6], which means that Cass City High School cannot have in excess of 1,900. Mrhercli89 (talk) 04:38, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
It seems that a source I found displayed different information. [7] puts the pop. at around 522, which is what is in the infobox currently. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:02, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your help. Yes, I happened across that site as well but I'm not entirely sure where they get their information from or how old it is. I figured that MHSAA would have more up to date information about the schools in the state of Michigan. Mrhercli89 (talk) 05:07, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Makes sense to me. If there aren't any other objections, we'll use that information. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:11, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is this link any help to school size [[8]] ? Bernette 05:14, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Looks to be 100 pages of graduation and credits for college information. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:19, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

size

edit

If I'm remember correctly any school who has a school size of 1,600 is a class A. I'm trying to find a link that is verifiable. Bernette 05:19, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Sources show that the school district has an enrollment population of 1,600, not the Cass City High School. The sources we have for the school show a much smaller pop. and class (in this case, C). Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:21, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
We are not going to edit war over this. Please, read the discussion above. Sources do not show the Cass City High School to have that many students. Sources show that the school has the amount I referenced, while the school district has the amount you keep putting into the article. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:26, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, actually, the amount referenced in the article is much too large for even the entire district. I've noticed that the user has edited the page again, and actually referenced their data with the source I provided showing the school to have 465 students and being of Class C status!Mrhercli89 (talk) 05:29, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
