Merge into Yoke

This could be a section within, but I don't think so. I will expand this. Please hold off merge consideration until then. I think they are so distinct that little more than the name is in common, and both in one article would seem strange. Please give it some time. Cheers. That article is completely about draught animals, and there seems little point to tryting to force human and non-human uses into a single article. Maybe rename this article to "shoulder pole or human yoke"? -- AnonMoos (talk) 02:16, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Merge with Yoke?

Most of the content on this page is about yokes. 5 of the 7 images in the gallery are yokes. "Carrying pole" is not even a widely-known English term. -- 13:28, 5 September 2014 Cornellier

As I said on "02:16, 30 November 2011" above, that article is exclusively about animal uses, while this article is about human uses. Not sure any clarity would be gained by merging the two, so a rename would be preferable. AnonMoos (talk) 02:02, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi AnonMoos, thanks for the feedback. My apologies, I should've read the existing Talk page and commented on that before proposing the merge. I'll have to research a bit more but I'm surprised at that the yoke page only discusses animal uses. Somewhat anecdotal, but I used a yoke myself just yesterday to portage a canoe. I've also used a yoke to carry two buckets of water. --Cornellier (talk) 03:10, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

In practical terms, what is discussed on the "Yoke" article is predominantly used to harness two animals to pull, while what is discussed on this article is predominantly used to help one human to carry -- so it makes sense to have two separate articles.
