Up to my knowledge he did study in the UK. Did he retain the position as a Minister of Education between 1984-1986?

Some person removed the reference that he is known as KMB.

"Nicks"

Maltesedog insists on inclusion of a reference to Mifsud Bonnici being known as "KMB" or even "Iż-Żero" ("The Zero") and charges me with vandalism on having removed them without comment.

Comment I did as can be seen from the history page and I would have assumed that one sentence would have sufficed. It seems it was not the case.

"KMB" is not a nick. It's obviously the initials and only those particularly skulled would not have drawn the conclusion that for "Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici" the initials are precisely those. Reference would have been superfluous.

Except in Maltese policial culture where such references are intended in a derogatory sense. Ever noted that "KMB" was never used in Union Press papers and "EFA" (for "Eddie Fenech Adami") in the Independence Press papers?

So "KMB" is either irrelevant or derogatory. One or the other, it would have no place in Wikipedia.

Now, to "Iż-Żero". I'm sorry to note I have to argue again this inclusion. It is obviously derogatory. Someone who removed the nicks asked whether there are references to "Dubya" in the entry for George W. Bush. The analogy is unfortunate: it should have asked why there are no references to "Bushhitler" or (Michael Moore's favourite) "Shrub". Wikipedia is no place for shrill partisanship but if Maltesedog insists maybe he'd also care to include the very personal and very nasty nicknames attributed to other Maltese politicians such as Guido de Marco and George Borg Olivier. I tend to disagree. KMB is a nick, though it is his initials. People on the street refer to him as il-KMB! Did you see the references? Even newspapers refer to him by those nicks. So why not? Come on. This is not a matter of partisanism.

I usually refrain from contributing to polticial articles deu to partisanship, but this is not the case. I tend to be a member of the Wikiproject biography. I contribute daily to this wiki, and I do not understand why such a controversy over to well known nicknames in the Maltese Islands should arise. I also argued that nicks of George W Bush where shown in the artcle so why not?

I see no problem in including nicknames, even derogatory ones, in the article. It is information that is relevant to the subject of the article. They should be included and identified for what they are, e.g.,

"He is sometimes referred to by his initials, KMB, which may be considered to be derogatory in Malta. He is also sometimes called "Iż-Żero" by his opponents."

This is an encyclopedia article, not a hagiography. It must include both the good and bad about a person, as long as it is true and verifiable. Can references be provided showing that these monikers are actually used to refer to him? If so, then they should go back in. Ground Zero | t 19:03, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici is neither KMB nor Iz-Zero. That would be Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici - maybe you'd like to move this argument to that talk page? Omgplz (talk) 07:56, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
