If there are 35 members of the Nationalist party who have been elected as Members of Parliament, how come only 23 are mentioned in government of Malta 2008-2013 ? 46.11.74.253 (talk) 14:59, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Because the title is a misnomer. It should be "Maltese Cabinet 2008-2013".

In Malta (as it is in the 'original' Westminster model), the executive is drawn out from the legislative. All members of the executive must be members of the legislative. On wikipedia, the word Government should be interpreted narrowly to encompass only the executive branch of the state and not all three of them. This is also stated on the original Government of Malta page and it's in conformity with other national governments on wikipedia such as: Government of the United Kingdom. That's the reason i had chosen the word 'Government of Malta' and not Cabinet of Malta. Cabinet of Malta is even more restrictive since it does not include the civil service which is an integral part of the implementation and enforcement of policy. --78.133.73.5 (talk) 14:47, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have been looking at similarly styled articles and I'm more than ever convinced that the name of this article should change. Government of the United Kingdom (mentioned in the previous contribution to this thread) explained the role and function of executive branch of the UK government; it does not list the holders of cabinet posts. This is done instead in an article appropriately called "Cabinet of the United Kingdom".
I refer to the UK example for no other reason that it was mentioned earlier. It is the case for all other European countries (e.g. Cabinet of Italy, Cabinet of France, etc.) and a templated box "National cabinets of Europe" gives a dead link for Malta (see below).
I would therefore suggest to rename this article "Cabinet of Malta" in line with others of a similar content.
