Fair use rationale for Image:CMTUSAlogoPNG.png

edit

Image:CMTUSAlogoPNG.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:04, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Country Music TelevisionCMT — The network identifies itself as just CMT, not Country Music Television. Compare MTV which is at "MTV" and not "Music Television". Almost every source I've found calls this network CMT, and its logo even says CMT. Given the number of incoming links and the fact that "CMT" already redirects here, I would imagine that most searches for "CMT" would be the network, so it would make sense to have the network as the "main" page with a hatnote leading to CMT (disambiguation). At the least, move it to something like "CMT (US TV channel)", if not CMT proper. — Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 23:59, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

    • The legal names are irrelevant. Wikipedia naming conventions specify that "article naming should prefer what the greatest number of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature." There is no reason for us to care one whit what the legal name of either MTV or CMT is. And just for the record, "MTV Networks Inc." is the not the name of the TV station – it is the name of the company that owns both MTV and CMT. Kaldari (talk) 16:02, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The answer to that is that acronyms tend to be ambiguous, especially three letter ones. I had never heard of CMT, the Country Music Television channel, until this discussion, but I had heard of Core Molding Technologies Inc., a 22 million dollar company out of Ohio, whose NYSE symbol is CMT. They first went public in 1997. Like most non-entertainment industry companies it does not have a Wikipedia article to its name. --Bejnar (talk) 21:14, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Have you taken a look at this? In case you're not familiar with the country music industry, those are all articles for country musicians, country songs, or shows on CMT (the channel). Kaldari (talk) 21:55, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Personally, I don't care much one way or the other, but you should frame your argument in relation to the guidelines, i.e. show that "CMT" is not recognized as the channel more than "Country Music Television" is. If you haven't heard of the channel whatsoever, then you're not in a position to know which term is more often recognized as the channel. Kaldari (talk) 22:03, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, one cannot prove a negative. The burden is on those who support a move to justify it. CMT is ambiguous, that is not in dispute. Now can the proponents of the move show that CMT's recognition coefficient as Country Music Television is high enough in the general population that that ambiguity doesn't matter? --70.57.246.220 (talk) 23:29, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Several similar discussions are underway now concerning where to put disambiguation pages. My view is that in most cases a page having an ambiguous title should be a disambiguation page. --Una Smith (talk) 00:36, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Put disambiguation page at ambiguous title:

CMT logo history

edit

CMT was originally called "CMTV". The first logo was the CMTV logo. The second, used exclusively from June 1983 to summer of 1984 was the full title "Country Music Television" (see logo examples on http://www.cmtcountry.com). The third logo was the block letter logo used in various forms from the latter part of 1984 through the Gaylord years and into the CBS/Viacom acquisition (this included a more 3 dimensional block letter format, but still essentially the same basic "blocks" logo). Sometime in 2004 the logo was changed to a serifed western style in use today.

That website, http://www.cmtcountry.com, is not the official site, and appears to be a personal web page, and as such, is not considered a reliable source. Rockypedia (talk) 23:57, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

"First independent Country Music Video to make the CMT chart"

edit

This edit makes the unsourced claim that a song was "(t)he first independent Country Music Video to make the CMT chart". In addition to being unsourced, the claim is trivial in relation to the subject. We might as well list various other "firsts" on the chart: first song in a minor key, first song by an Asian artist, first song by an LGBT artist, etc. If a source can be found, the content might be appropriate for the artist or song's article (if there is one). - SummerPhD (talk) 02:08, 3 December 2013 (UTC) my opinion: this was kinda good with the country music and stuff, the reality shows now are kinda cool. at least we have cmt music for music. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.120.45.122 (talk) 16:01, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
