Provisional Cavalry Act of 1796 edit
Does anybody know what this actually did? Austin Gee's book suggests that volunteer cavalry had been established by the Volunteer Act of 1794. Alansplodge (talk) 20:44, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Volunteer Cavalry and Yeomanry edit
Me again - does anybody know the difference (if any) between Volunteer Cavalry and Yeomanry? I suspect that they are the same thing except that Yeomanry were from the countryside (manned by yeoman farmers) and Volunteer Cavalry were from towns. I can't find a reference to confirm this. - You could try the [only] book referenced on the Yeomanry article. There are a few copies on sale on Amazon (UK) from 99p, if you can't get hold of it online or from a library. Note that article states the difference in the lead, also, assuming it's right, and there are a fair few Yeomanry articles linked in the last section which might offer other sources to look out for.
