GA Nomination

I have put the nomination for this article "On Hold" because I don't feel that the prose is particularly captivating, especially that of the lead, and because there is not sufficient content. I realize that the band was a flop and only produced one album, but even so, there is little information about the band. What do they sound like? I see reviews, but unless I actually pursue the reviews and read them in full, I have no idea of their sound. "Pop/rock" is pretty general; that could mean anything from The Beatles to Good Charlotte, who are obviously quite distinct from one another. Expand the article and improve the writing of the lead, and I'd consider passing it. Solid in terms of references, format, stability and the like; it's just lacking in content, mainly. -- Cielomobile ^minor7♭5 02:09, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

• What they sound like. Describing these things isn't really my forte. I'll see if I can find some quotes. I guess an audio sample would be a good idea too.
• Fair use rationale - yes, will fix that.
• How did they meet and other background info - I'm really limited by the sources on matters like this. I'm quite interested to know too, but at the moment I don't know. There's not much written about this band and I guess they would have slid into obscurity if 2 of the members hadn't gone on to achieve some fame. As for those members, June Montana never became famous, Cauty became quite infamous but there's no published biography of him that I know of, Youth became well known too but I don't know if there's any books about him... I'll ask on the talk pages of Youth and his more famous band Killing Joke; perhaps there is a book about him which has this info.
• I'm not sure an article has to be captivating to be GA; being well written, solidly referenced and comprehensive ought to be enough. I don't imagine, for example, that a print enyclopedia would find much more to say about this band than we do.

Looking at the revision in the GA nom box above (and assuming it is the correct revision), I have no idea why I ever thought the article was ready for GA at the time. There aren't even any contemporary reviews included in it. I have to laugh (in an ironic way), however, that some of our later GAs have been delisted, with some reviewers rejecting in particular to us describing what a band or record sounds like. Tin Tin and the history of the band

Interesting. I was quite excited to add what you'd found. I had it in my head you'd given me a link to AllMusic, probably because I've just been tidying up AllMusic references in other articles :). Then I realised it's Discogs, and I'm not sure if their bios are a reliable source or not (the discographies are crowd sourced so far as I know). I left the info about Cauty being Tin Tin's housemate there but for now commented out.

Also, in the intervening years, an editor or editors have added a lot of info about the early incarnations of the band, but unfortunately they don't appear to have left citations for any of it. Shame that. --kingboyk (talk) 23:48, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Looks like discogs is off limits period. I really need a source for when Cauty joined the band; if he joined circa 1983 and left in 1986 that would mean he was in Zodiac Mindwarp concurrently (they started in 1985). (I could really use a date for when Cauty left Zodiac Mindwarp too; both for the "Early life and career" section of the Jimmy Cauty article). --kingboyk (talk) 05:40, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

The Saga of Hawkwind says Anderson played with Youth and Cauty in Brilliant in 1982. I gather it's a well respected book about Hawkwind, but I don't know if the lineup of Brilliant would be fact checked; besides Google Books doesn't show the page number. --kingboyk (talk) 07:48, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
