Nice additions so far. Already have learned a bit about the Bow. One question - the use of "hydraulic wave". What is a hydraulic wave? Aren't all waves hydraulic by nature? The Interior (Talk) 05:10, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Great point. The Calgary Bow River Weir Project calls it a hydraulic wave on their website (http://www.harviepassage.ca/about.html) as well as the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Water/2ColumnSubPage/STDPROD_067550.html). That being said, however, neither of them say what is "hydraulic" about it. Etymology not consistent with Bow Valley

This article says:

The name "Bow" refers to the reeds that grew along its banks and which were used by the local First Nations peoples to make bows

but Bow Valley says:

It may be named for its resemblance to an archer's bow.

Only one of these theories can be correct. Which? Gdr 08:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
