Talk:Blinx: The Time Sweeper
Untitled
editDangit, it's come to my attention that Microsoft refers to this game as Blinx: The Time Sweeper instead of Blinx: the Time Sweeper... maybe someone could move it, and refresh all those links I fixed to link to here on Xbox related pages... if it's important, anywho. MrD 3 July 2005 01:30 (UTC)
Master Chief?
editSome suggest that Blinx was proposed as a possible 'mascot' for the Xbox system, rivalling Nintendo's Mario or Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog, since the main character of Halo: Combat Evolved (Master Chief) was considered too violent.
Out of interest, did Master Chief exist in the Mac pre-version of Halo? I thought the MC-ster was more of a Bungie mascot, anyway: Halo, in true 'Only For Xbox' fashion, came out on the PC too. But, a few Sonic games did come out for the PC too and that didn't make Sonic any less Sega-ey.
Besides, Master Chief is a moron anyways. ;)
Poor first party games?
editThe release of Blinx only helped to further the bad reputation of the Xbox as having poor first-party games, at the same time as when the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo GameCube had a string of blockbuster games lined up for the 2002 Christmas season. Its sequel Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space was also critically panned.
I'd like to dispute that. GameCube certainly did not have a string of blockbuster games lined up for the 2002 Christmas season.
Actually, I would have said that the sentence centers itself around the gamecube, remember that we are talking about First Party Block Busters...it was in the second semester of 2002, when games like Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Star Fox Adventures, Animal Crossing and more were launched. Obviously, the next years saw a reversal of the situation.

- Played the first level, and it was protugese, and english subtitle>:@
Can some one tell me, if the game is like that or is it in english 87.74.26.190 21:17, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
In Blinx: The Time Sweeper, the cats all speak a gibberish language during the intro sequence. As far as I know, the only English Blinx actually says is when he finishes a level and says 'Piece o' cake, yo!' as he jumps into the exit gate. In Blinx 2, the cats all speak English. - Wait a minute... do Blinx + co. really speak portugese in the first Blinx? Can somebody verify? MrD 09:14, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Time Control
editI removed the statment saying that Microsoft 'claimed' that Blinx' time controls were only capable on Xbox as this was not a claim, it is actually true. Blinx' style of time control could not be done other consoles as they required a hardrive to record all events that were occuring in the level so that time may be rewinded to that point later. While the later released multiplatform Prince of Persia also had time control elements, the lack of a hardrive meant that the time control elements could not be perfomed in the same way as Blinx. You can check IGN's explanation here as well--58.169.11.35 05:22, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
As a programmer, my opinion is that Blinx -shouldn't need the hard drive- to record time. Replays have been in many game before and since Blinx, and games have included comparable time controlling game mechanics. The differences between PoP and Blinx are partly because of technical restrictions: the hard drive definitely helps, I'll grant you that, but the main reason is that Blinx' time controls are puzzle-3D platformer environment manipulation utilities. Prince of Persia's time controls are more to do with manipulating the enemies during combat. The exception being, of course, that both game possess the ability to 'rewind' time. Without seeing the source and technical documents behind PoP, I don't think anybody can say for sure that PoP's rewind capability was restricted purely by memory. I'd like to see just how much harddrive space a Blinx run takes up.
And besides, I don't think IGN really counts as a reliable technical source. :P MrD 11:01, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Re-reading what I'd previously written, I move that it is indeed accurate: Microsoft did claim that Blinx required the hard-drive to time record. (Whether it did or not, is in fact irrelevant to the validity of this statement.) And PoP does 'recreate some of the temporal mechanics of Blinx', with reference to the comments I made about the 'rewind' power. MrD 11:04, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Time Controls
editBefore you change the Time Controls section to expand the 'acronyms', remember that they're called REW, FF, PAUSE, REC, SLOW and RETRY in the game, the manual, the sequel and the official Artoon website. MrD 02:04, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
World B1Q64
edit- When a gang of evil pigs known as the Tom-Tom gang begin stealing and destroying Time in dimension B1Q64, it becomes temporally unstable to the extent that the Time Sweepers decide that it is safer for all dimensions if B1Q64 is allowed to disappear into non-existence, killing all within.
I seem to remember from the cutscene that the reporter announces that "World B1Q64's supply of time will be forever frozen", or something along those lines. Ought this to be changed? Cyberlemming 00:55, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- That is a bit odd. I shouldn't have wrote that... that's just an interpretation of what actually happens. Fixed. ish. MrD 09:09, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Time Controls
editIf it is deemed that the Time controls section should be altered, consider rewriting it rather than removing it. The Time Controls of Blinx received much coverage due to their mainstream exposure of a relatively previously unused game mechanic. Also, please supply a more detailed reason than 'WP:VG', (did you mean WP:GAMETRIVIA 6?). 79.72.185.108 (talk) 05:03, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
License
editRecently, I E-mailed Microsoft to see if the rumor that they dropped the rights to the Blinx trademark was true, they said it was not, as so, Blinx is still playable on Xbox One with updated graphics.BlinxAndSonicFan2006 (talk) 19:03, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
