The bioindicator article edit

I am not sure what to say about this article. I have made an attempt to organize it a little, and make it presentable. I would appreciate it, Before anyone else goes and Adds to, or Deletes from. .... to do this:

find some more Appropriate, species, genera, or Articles to add to: Category:Bioindicators and Category:Indicator species and Category:Indicator species of North America, or create "Indicator species of Region Xxxxx", (in other words do some work before writing what you only think you know about- (and I am not putting down just reading about things on line)..or reading about things in wikipedia-the-great-encyclopedia-of-Earth).. From out in the SonoranDesert-of the state-of-Arizona.. ....--Mmcannis 19:58, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

.

I am responding to the message above. I am an IB Biology HL 2 student, and think that I have enough biology background to say that it is better if that the two should merged together.

Until I added the paragraphs and wikis, this article was as it was obtained from the one web site. As you will note, when I did the plant section, the one reference I pointed out, is NOT a plant. It is our great composite the Lichen. My main arguments are you cannot put the items in each of the categories Category:Bioindicators, and Category:Indicator species of North America into each other. I spent part of a weekend putting items in the Bioindicator category, and learned as I went. And... I am sure some other articles can go into them. -Mmcannis 06:43, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
As I was looking for more tree species for Guatemala trying to populate the Category:Trees of Guatemala, not only did I find the Guatemalan magnolia, but it turned out to be an Indicator species of the Cloud forest. I got a Two for the price of One, on that deal. This article is still a Stub even though the Tag was removed. (From the SonoranDesert of Arizona).. -Mmcannis 06:43, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, and here's the Deal: There are "Total" merge crazies, out there. And I won't explain, because I just recently found out "Why". Suffice it to say I didn't find out actually until I started removing the Merge tags from: Lamella; I had just started a cetegory: for: Category:Bird terminology, and added: Lamella (zoology), (and took off the tag). But I learned// found out about the Merge Craziness. You will find that question marks will appear in your brain, because you will find merge tags in the most amazing places, done by the most amazing people.(I'm sure.)(And articles are being swallowed up, either merged or Re-directed even as you are reading this.) It is my loss, (and maybe yours,too2)-- -Mmcannis 06:43, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Biomarker versus Bioindicator edit

If there is a difference between these two terms, please could someone explain it? --RichardVeryard 10:08, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to the content of the two pages there is a difference.

A bioindicator is the presence/absence/abundance of a species that tells us about the environmental condition of the place that is being sampled. This technique would be used for environmental monitoring.

On the otherhand, a biomarker seems to refer to biochemistry (processes within cells).

Probably misleading edit

The implication from this article is that bioindicators are useful but the weakness of the references suggests that this bioindicators are unimportant and has few implications for environmental policy and practice.--Smokefoot (talk) 19:09, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
