My comment: Could you please name the source you took this statement from?? I'm sorry, but this "information" is "complete nonsense"! Bill was far away from the pits, he even just passed the pits (approx. two kilometers away from the place where he crashed). Absolutely no reason to take off the helmet there in the middle of the practise session!

By the way, unfortunately I don't have the time to visit the place of his crash today, the 40th anniversary of his death. Exactly one year ago I was there. 30 years ago I proposed to establish a little memorial plate there, but under the communistic "circumstances" there was no chance for it then.
