Professional Status

What qualifies Askren to be referred to as a professional mixed martial artist?

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional#Sport —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cpyder (talkcontribs) 17:40, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I assume because he gets paid, but the main argument would be that reliable sources say so. --aktsu (t / c) 17:56, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Reach

I'm not sure what the proper source is for the reach measurement of fighters but Askren was listed at 85 inches, clearly incorrect. I've changed it to 71 inches, which I found on Tapology. 04:17, 16 August 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by DJF047 (talkcontribs)

Missing Personal Life Info

It is difficult to talk about Ben Askren and the UFC without bringing up the difficulties surrounding his, and UFC President Dana White's relationship. The two have always had issues and that is one of the fundamental reasons that Askren was kept out of the UFC for so long, this is something that is definitely worth mentioning and helps contribute to the full story of Askren's long road to finally fighting in the UFC. --Steve Name (talk) 18:31, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Someone has vandalized the page stating he is dead. This is not true. 122.162.21.21 (talk) 21:29, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Is it really a fact that Ben has Aspergers, as the reference for this is him joking about this to Joe Rogan and should not be seen as absolute proof of this. 163.158.129.170 (talk) 16:32, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

I agree with the editor above. I really don't see the video as proof that Askren has Aspergers, despite the direct statement. It sounds like a one line joke, not a clinical discussion. The claim shouldn't be in the article without some more solid prooof. 50.248.234.77 (talk) 17:48, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Done. Needs a more reliable source. Self-published sources can only be used if there is no reasonable doubt about its authenticity. It is reasonable to believe that Askren was only joking in the video. --Surachit (talk) 23:59, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

That’s the manner Askren usually speaks in, and it wasn’t Joe Rogan he was speaking to. It’s Ariel Helwani. I did not see the joke in that statement. He said it in a serious manner to explain a SMS conversation with Dana White in which he didn’t respond with a proper goodbye in Ariel’s opinion. Ariel took it as a joke and laughed for a split-second. It makes completely sense though for what he was explaining in the video. Why would it be a joking statement, and do you think there will be any other source for this than him saying it in interviews to explain social awkwardness? Kimern9 (talk) 08:06, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

The end of the lead paragraph currently contains the following text (nowikied to show the reference text)

As of March 27, 2019, he was #5 in the official UFC welterweight rankings.

Please change this to read:

As of July 1, 2019, he was #5 in the official UFC welterweight rankings.

The updated version uses a correct, verifiable source. Note that the official rankings haven't been updated for UFC 239 results, so haven't changed. No doubt he will drop a couple of places in the forthcoming rankings. 50.248.234.77 (talk) 08:21, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
