Wine auction
editNot worthy of comment in the main article, but passing researchers might wish to know of an auction, by Messrs. Christie, Manson & Woods, on 27 May 1895, “Of A Large Bin of 1870 Port And Choice Cigars … Of The 1888 and 1891 Crops, The Property Of The Right Hon. Lord Gerard”. (My picture #19972.) Re: Historically of Bryn, Ashton in Makerfield.
editIt should be said that the Gerard family was, and is, vast. The 'family' didn't build, or own, this 'hall' and that 'hall'. The houses were built by different members of the family, all over Great Britain and Ireland. And France, I believe. To mention Bryn (?), an estate in a town in the north of England where one of the family might have lived and branched out from, is wrong. To mention the section of the family from Ince, near Wigan, as if they are the same people, is just as bad. What about Gerards Bromley Hall?, Windle Hall?, Crewood Hall?. Estates in Middlesex, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Wiltshire etc., all are 'Gerards family homes'. Historically.
- Please bear in mind that this article is not about the Gerard family and all of its lines and everyone named Gerard - it is solely about three specific immediate families who became members of the Peerage. This makes it somewhat awkward in that it really combines three distinct family groups. The information given in the infobox does not help, in that the infobox is specific to the third creation, but the implicit implication is that it applies to the entire page.
